"Location and staff graciousness make this hotel a 5-star accommodation"
I was traveling solo from America to Brussels and was unsure what difficulties were going to arise because I speak neither French nor Flemish.I soon discovered that most everyone speaks English in Brussels. I chose the St.Michel because it is right on the Grand Place and the affordable priced. The biggest staff asset the hotel has is Stephanie at the front desk. She made my stay a success. I felt well taken care of and will always chose St.Michel for return trips to Brussels.

Hotel is self service so you have to phone up for a booking code just before arrival - would be better if this could be emailed out with original booking, but the check in process was very easy. Room was very large, bright and comfortable and bed gave a good night's sleep. No bathmat in bathroom - as we were staying only one night this wasn't a problem. Would definitely recommend and stay there again.

I went to Brussels for a work related meeting and booked this hotel at the last minute. While the price was very cheap, nothing prepared me for the room I was going to stay in.
After checking in, and here I must say that the reception staff was very corteous, I went to my room and I felt like I was stepping back in the 70's. The room was appaling to say the least. Walls were pistachio green and duvets were inexistent, the blankets I had on the bed were the same blankets my mother used to buy back in the 70's.
The bathroom was really small and not comfortable at all, while the TV was a very old one and didn't have more than 7 channels. There was just one power socket and it was near the bathroom, so charging my mobile was a feat. Breakfast was to say the least average with only, cheese, butter and bread available.
One good point for this hotel is that the room had WIFI and it was quite good. The hotel was very close to the metro station as well therefore it was easy to get around.

After reading some of the reviews already posted I considered cancelling booking. My room was a single on the 8th floor clean and comfortable. Bathroom could do with updating. good view of the city. 5-10 minutes walk from Brussel North Station. Breakfast consisted of a continetal with plenty of coffee. If you are prudish you may be put off by the sex shops opposite.
Staff were friendly.

It is a place to go if you want to save money and close to the city center. I had a single room. There are a shower and a washbasin in the room. Bring your own towels with you. I did, because this was suggested by a rewiewer. Toilet is shared among three rooms and it is very small. There is no English TV programme, but I watched news on my own laptop. You get bread, butter, juice and milk, tea and coffee for the breakfast. There is a shared fridge and a microwave oven that you can heat up your food, but the kettle is broken.

The hotel staff was very friendly and considerate. They helped me carry my heavy suitcase up to the room, call for a taxi when I needed, etc. The street can be a little noisy during the day as Mannekin pis is very close to it but at night it is quite. I would definitely recommend a stay here if you are looking for a clean room w private bathroom but no added frills.
