the hotel is nice enough and situated in a convenient location, but the owner is weird, so this review is not for the hotel, but the owner... while he took the time to demonstrate the use of the shower and explained the use of the safe, the very basic thing of providing a map was neglected - i was told to go to the plaza where there would be "better maps".
after roaming around for a few hours and stumbling upon the plaza, i got the map but forgot where the hotel was! by luck or by chance, i ran into the owner, who explained to me that he owned two hotels and that one was better than the other. i was not staying at the better one! is this not bad etiquette in Colombia?
also, i met his afternoon staff upon returning and he was nice enough to give me a map of the area! the place is nice, clean and convenient, but the owner has strange manners, with all the options in hotels and hostels in the area, why put money in his pocket.

"Great hostel for backpackers or casual travelers."
Hotel Masaya has a very nice upscale hostel feeling. There are great sitting areas and a kitchen for guests. They make an effort to help you meet the other guests and arrange outings. They are very helpful in finding places to go, tours, and transportation. The attached restaurant is very convenient, good, and comparably priced to other restaurants in the area. The internet access is very good.

An old building in an old and very picturesque part of town, but cleverly and effectively renovated into a really quite charming small hotel. Very comfortable bed, loads of covers for those chilly nights (and an effective space heater if you wish), large and clean bathroom with shower, small desk, good wifi. Breakfast: fresh cut fruit, fresh squeezed juice, fresh bread, eggs cooked on the spot to your liking, and coffee of course. Staff totally helpful. Small markets very close. Surprisingly quiet at night. The walk to downtown is quick and easy. Guidebook says not to walk alone after dark; I didn't put that to the test, but daytime the streets have lots of students and I felt totally safe.

We had an excellent welcome and staff were always friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and had attractive art work as did the rest of the hotel. There were fabulous flowers and plants all around the hotel. The roof terrace had a great view and was a lovely place to relax. A good breakfast was served. The location was in the heart of the old city and it was great to have a view over the street. We did not find noise a problem, even though our room overlooked the street. There was a very handy and excellent Italian restaurant just a few yards away. We took a taxi after dark for anything further away for security reasons. The area was fine in daylight and really handy for the main sights and Montserrate.

I found the staff very helpful and knowledgable. The bed very comfortable and a good breakfast. Keep in mind this is an old building so not soundproof but then the charm and service of smaller hotels is what is important to me. Be advised this is the newer platypus not the hostel.

Hotel De La Opera was perfectly located in the scenic Candelaria section of Bogota. The hotel staff was helpful with suggestions and directions, the pool and spa were great for relaxing, and the buffet breakfast every morning was perfect. We were delighted with our stay there.

This is 100 year old plus property, maintained, but not remodeled. The best about it is the location, owners they are really cool, price. Is and hostel but I don't think you have to share the rooms, is more like you share the bathroom. the only think I would change is that they take credit card and that when you get the keys you can open the main gate so you can go in & out anytime.

Well located in the historical center of La Candelaria. Our ground floor room was a bit noisy, mostly from staff and reception noise. Towels are not included and cards are not accepted. A good option, although we found better for the same price.
