"Great location, comfortable rooms"
Not sure about all the negative reviews here. A great room for a very reasonable price, in a convenient location too. Only criticism is lack of Wifi in the room but it worked fine from the lobby. Would come again. If you want luxury, pay more!

"Good location, just have ear plugs at night."
Our room was clean and sufficient. After reading the bad reviews we actually were pleasantly surprised how clean it was. Yes, it is very old. The only problem was noise at night. Definitely you need ear plugs, then you'll get a good night's sleep.

"Hostel -- for what it is, it's great"
Remember - it's not a hotel, it's a hostel. That means shared bathroom and showers - but they're clean and lock. I had my own room with a fridge, microwave, basic tv (5 channels) and free wi-fi. There's no maid service, but if you're staying in a hostel, that's not surprising. If you want a serious hotel experience - luxurious bed, free maid service, room service etc -- this isn't the place for you.If you're looking to stay cheap and just sleep in your room, using it as a jump off point to enjoy SF, it's a great place. Good location, two blocks west of Union Square, where a bunch of tours leave and the cable cars. Near the BART station.

"You Get What You Pay For"
If you're expecting a Four Seasons or Holiday Inn, this isn't the place for you, my friend. However, if you just need somewhere to rest your head at night in a safe and decent place, this is perfect for you. The staff is friendly, well the clerk at the front desk was. It was his first day. The linens could've been replaced, but it is what it is. At least the flat sheet was somewhat decent, and I had to make do with the pillowcase. On the bright side, the fleece throw was so comfortable and felt good on my skin. They only have one bathroom on each floor, so you have to kind of stand/sit to wait til the next person is done using it. I believe they have 4 floors and 25 rooms, so you do the math on schedules and how everyone needs it for showers and such. Besides all that, it was fine for me. I mean, yeah you may have to walk through dingy streets, pass a few bums and strike through a long alleyway [if you're walking] just to get to the hotel; but what else do you expect for such a good price? I really wasn't in SF for the hotel itself anyway, but more so for the Beyonce & Jay-Z concert. Yes, they gave me life!!! I love those two as a power couple and as performers, solo and as a duo.
