Our plane was late, we got lost on our way to the hotel and we didn't arrive until gone midnight even so our welcome could not have been better. We had an upgrade and a fantastic room/suite for our stay. The hotel was in a lovely building in a beautiful setting. Wifi reception in the room was good. Food unfortunately was a bit of a let down, breakfast was limited on the first day but much better on the second. The evening meal was not up to standard for the price we had to pay and I write this after sampling the food in other hotels and restaurants during our stay in Sicily. A shame as otherwise I could not fault the hotel.

Hotel is located very near to the main shopping street in a busy and safe area, unlike many other budget choices in Catania which are nearer the railway station, a 20 minute walk. Access to reception is by a flight of stairs in a secure building, and there are more stairs for certain rooms. Rooms facing away from the street are quiet and spacious with some historical touches. Bathroom is as expected for this class and the bed is large and firm, just to my liking. Some staff have little English, others have excellent English. Breakfast is limited for this class and should be improved in terms of both quantity, quality, and range. Nevertheless this is probably your best choice in this class and area.

"Cheap, efficient accommodation in cental Catania"
This is basic hotel offering cheap and efficient accomodation. It is on the airport bus route (457 stop Etnea). The airconditining works and the Wifi works well in the limited public areas. If you want to spend a comfortable time in Catania without spending a lot of money, this hotel is the ideal solution. I have used it three times. Twice I have had wonderful rooms overlooking the Via Etnea - once a slightly less agreeable one overlooking the coutyard of the host palazzo. I would not hesitate to use it again.

We stayed in the independent unit that is on the Via Testa, a few feet off the steps of Santa Maria di Monte. It was nice and large, with sofas to relax on. On the next street down the steps was the area with the breakfast room, which had a beautiful terrace and a wonderful view. The breakfast was very nice.
I had previously scoped out potential parking areas on Google maps with Streetview, so I could see what the streets actually looked like, and was able to get a space on Via Ex Matrice, since driving around a hill town is impossible (you never know what streets are passable are not). We had gone to Caltagirone to see the neighborhood and house my grandmother was born in, and I do recommend a short visit to the town (one day will do). Just be aware that many of the streets are steep, narrow staircases, so you have to be prepared for that. If you are able, try to time your visit with one of the major festivals, like San Giacomo, when the entire staircase is covered with little colored lamps that create a beautiful image. There is another holiday when it is completely covered with a flower design.

WHat makes Xenios B&B so wonderful is not just that it is in the heart of Catania close to everything yet is quiet and peaceful and full of Scilian charm it is the warm, friendly, fun company of Nicolas & Lianna who are the best B&B Hosts we have ever come across. Every morning we looked forwad to breakfast knowing that we would be treated to a delicious Scilian breakfast (a different delicious sweet Ravioli, fruit, juice & Coffee...yum!) but also we knew that we would be also treated to a humerous and informative chat with our Hosts who told us about the so many good things to do in this fascinating part of Italy. The accomodation is enchantingly olde world with vaulted ceilings and darkened rooms which give wonderful protection from the heat and though it certainly is not lavish it is really authentic. Lucky you if you manage to get a booking as this is one of the Best - Thank you Nicolas & Lianna from your Irish guests we'll definitely be back
