"Wonderful traditional Ryokan style accommodation!"
This gem blew us away!!! A beautifully restored >100 year old traditional Machiya accommodation at a stone's throw from Nijo castle. The 1st floor room with garden view is unbeatable in terms of privacy / traditional Japanese Ryokan feel. Traditional Japanese futon bedding was surprisingly comfortable and warm (and great fun). The bathroom (shared, but with only 4 rooms in the hotel it is available virtually all the time) is a modern, comfortable sauna experience that we enjoyed maybe even more than the rest of Kyoto :-)
Worth every penny, and more!

"Book only if it is the last room open for business"
It is small place which does not bother me but it make you feel like you are in a box. Everytihing about it is old and outdated. There are no room to move around. If you are non-smoker, you can forget about using common room (have only one which is every small reception area) - employees and customer smoke there since there are no court yard or other common area. The communal bathroom is on the first floor and all the rooms are 3rd and 4th floor. They took the hot water knob on the sink where you wash and brush teeth --hhmm very cheap! Also, there are neither closet - just two hangers- nor mirror in the room.

I had a great experience at this Comfort Inn and am baffled by all the reviewers complaining about the location. It is a safe fifteen-minute walk from Kyoto Station, a huge transportation hub, and a bus bound for the station stops across the street every ten minutes. There are also several temples, shrines, and museums in walking distance. The rooms are nothing extravagant but they're secure, clean, and comfortable. The staff checked me in speedily upon arrival and were helpful, warm, and spoke good conversational English. They also sell day passes for the bus, which was very convenient, and provide a fresh, tasty, and diverse breakfast buffet that offers both authentic Japanese fare and western staples. If I returned to Kyoto with twice the budget I had on this trip, I would probably still book the Comfort Inn Kyoto Gojo!

We stayed 6 nights in November 2014. We stayed on the main floor unit. It is like a service apartment approximately 16 ft x 15 ft, with two bunk beds, one small table, two chairs, a kitchen with induction cooking stove, microwave/convection oven, rice cooker, and a clothes washer. Hot water on demand is comfortable. Air conditioner/heating is quiet and works great. Washroom is OK.
Location, although difficult to find, is convenient. The management will send you a detailed map to help you find the Guesthouse. It is steps away from "kawaramachi matsubara" bus stop. About 3/4 kilometers to Keihan railway kiyomizu-gojo station, or Kyoto subway "shijo". About 1 km north is the shijo shopping area. It is less than 2 km from Kyoto station.
