"Nice price, good location"
I had to book a relatively inexpensive room on short notice for a business trip. The location happeperfect for both of my appointments. If you're staying for pleasure, the Clarion is close to the NYCAirporter GCT dropoff/pickup. In fact, there's plenty to see in the area just walking about. Room was tiny, but for my purposes that was fine. And it was clean. Staff was extremely courteous and helpful.

"Great location and price to see NYC"
The room is Spartan but it has beds and a bathroom (although some rooms have shared bath) but that is all you need if you are there to tour New York. The staff were excellent, giving us suggestions on places to eat and booking us a taxi for our trip to the airport. The neighborhood is safe (we rarely got back to the hotel before 1 am). There is a subway stop within a block of the hotel and taxis can easily be called at Park or Lexington. Also several places to eat especially breakfast. We travelled as a family of three and would happily stay here again.

"Great location."
Considering the building is 115 years old the place is ok. The location is great but the inside needs upgrading. I wish the place had an elevator because going up so many stairs became exhausting over time.

"The staff are rude. Treated guests like kids."
The staff members treat their guests like kids. I guess it is because it's clientele are students? By the way, there were many under-18 guests during my stay. For me who is visiting on business, can they at least treat me like a customer as normal hotels do? The one bad incident I've had in years of staying in hotels to join international conferences worldwide -- For the first time in the ten or so days that I was already staying at this hotel, I forgot my ving card in my room and had to phone the hotel security for help. A sweet lady, one of the few exceptions, said she would send her colleague right away. When a burly man emerged from the elevator and walked straight to me, I knew he was the one sent to help me, and I smiled so warmly that I was practically dripping on the carpet. The man obviously was in a foul mood and I would be hearing about it. "Why did you say you were in a towel?" he said in accusingly. No, I did not, I replied, and I then realize that's what he was told so that he would go to a guest promptly. Apparently, he came as soon as he can because he was told I was in the hallway in a towel. I was really appalled at the directness of this staff. Mind you, he is not unique. Many of the security staff treat guests like unruly kids. Ironic because I almost would have given a better score to the staff due to an uneventful two weeks of me not having to need help from them.
