"Great location to museums and transportation"
Used primarily to sleep; gone most of the day. Room smaller than I am used to,but not a problem as we were there only to sleep. Not many amenities but had full array of information of things to do and see.

"Great hotel with great location!"
The hotel was really good with its staff, rooms, and especially location. It takes 5 minutes to walk metro from hotel. And it's on the upper east side so it's really safe and secure.

"Location, location, location....."
This hotel is located on Broadway and 97th street. One street up from the 96th street subway station and only a couple of blocks away from Central Park if you head towards the east side. The 1 line on the subway is great. The subway can get you anywhere in the city and it's very easy to use. In six days we were able to familiarize ourselves with pretty much everything in Manhattan thanks to the great location. There is food and shopping all around and everything is fairly easy to find. The 1 line is about five stops up from Union Circle/Sqaure(sic) and from there you can get to Times Square, The Empire State Building, Bryant Park, Central Park, and many other great attractions. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff were very nice, very friendly, and very helpful. The only drawback was the communal bathroom. This wasn't that bad either. In six days I waited twice for the restroom and once I went downstairs one level and there was a restroom open there. The only complaint we had was having to get dressed to go to the restroom. The amenities were more than enough for us. :-) We did not know how lucky we were to be in such a great spot until we started walking the city and then using the subway. The 1 line being one block down was such a great befit. Being able to get off one block away from your room was very VERY convenient. For the price and the location you could not get a better place. We will stay here again next time we go to NY!

"This was perfect for what we needed."
We had some qualms about whether this hotel-hostel could be too good to be true, but it really was fantastic. What we wanted and needed was some place a short, easy subway ride to Lincoln Center because we were going to see an opera that got out after midnight, and we did not want to pay the usual $300-500+ a night Manhattan rates, especially in the Central Park West area. After reading generally positive but a few mixed reviews, we took the chance. The staff was wonderful. They were courteous, friendly, and helpful about not just the usual checking in routine, but helping us check and store our luggage until we could check in later that evening, and directing us to the nearest parking garage. Our room was great. Although we were upgraded from a private room with a shared bath to a private room with a private bath, there were other rooms like the one we booked on our floor and they all looked clean and bright, and the shared bathrooms looked good even Sunday morning. Our room had a double bed, firm, no-frills mattress, a flat screen t.v., and hair dryer, etc. in the bathroom. There was no closet but there was a good-sized dresser and plenty of floor space to pile things on top of luggage. The place was, as we anticipated, full of mostly twenty-somethings from all around the world, who were delightful, and we heard no noise where we were on the 4th floor. Our bathroom was clean and bright. Yes, the rooms were small for the U.S. but spacious compared to most in Europe. Loved it.

Pocket Guide: New York Upper West Side 2 stars Hotels

Some bemoan that the Upper West Side has become a version of the Upper East Side. Case in point: Columbus Circle’s Time Warner Center, one of New York’s priciest real estate. The Upper West Side includes the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the American Museum of Natural History, and Columbia University. Harlem, the legendary African American neighborhood, lies north and caps Manhattan.
