Never having been to Costa Rica before, I was hesitant of committing to anything. I chose Puerto Viejo due to it being their dry season in September. We could not have been luckier choosing the area and the hotel! The hotel was well cared for and the staff was unbelievably helpful and kind. We got in very late after our 6 hour drive from San Jose, and of course were a little cranky, and the staff went out of their way to help us settle in so late. The Oceanfront room had an ocean view as promised and was spacious enough for the three of us; my dad, sister and myself. A sloth lives in a tree on the premises and we got to see him close up the first day we were there. The free breakfast every morning was phenomenal with an egg and pancake station. All staff were amazing; the servers and Johnny at the desk and Glory in the gift shop! Glory was knowledgeable about things to do in the area and set everything up for us. I just can't say enough about this place. The location was great; a little away from the loudness of the 'town' but only a three minute drive, (if that). All tours picked us up at the hotel and the max drive was about a half hour. It is a very cool town that has something for everyone. My 60 year old dad loved it as well as my 30 year old sister. Lots to do and beautiful beaches; something for everyone!

-The room looked just like the pics. When we arrived to our Jr. Suite our room was clean, fridge cold and so was the A/C! Huge shower with two sinks. Plenty of counter space and a little shelf for all your toiletries, etc. Which was a big plus when u have girls sharing a bathroom. The bed was comfy. I really liked the fact that beside the bed was a little shelf and it had light switches.
-One of the great things about the rooms here is that you could not hear the other guests. Our room was close to all conveniences of the hotel (pool, restaurant, reception and exit).
-Breakfast had a number of buffet options. I LOVED the banana pancakes! The pool was perfect for when the beach was a bit too sunny. It was clean & nicely decorated.
-The rooms were cleaned everyday and they always did a fantastic job. Sometimes there were insects around or in the room. Its the carribean, you have to expect bugs.
-Big Plus for the hotel having a security guard patrolling every night around seven pm or so. Plus, they close the gate around nine pm so only the guard can let you in. This was great!
-They were ALL more than willing to offer directions, call you a taxi or answer any other questions you may have. I liked the fact that they werent constantly in your face. They were there when we needed them. Of all the staff, the Italian Manager was our favorite. He was very helpful & went above & beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay. THANK YOU & we cant wait to return to Totem Hotel

The resort and staff were amazing. We arrived late from San Jose and the staff stayed late to assist us up the mountain. Additionally, they prepared a meal and had it waiting in our room upon our arrival. The house we stayed in and the grounds of the property were breathtaking. We will be returning to Samasati in the future.

We stayed our first night in puerto viejo at a place we weren't too happy with. After finding lizard king on Expedia we thought we'd give it a try. We aimed to stay one night but ended up staying for 3. Staff were amazing. Breakfast was awesome (choice of 4 different ones) . great location. Pool was awesome and quiet. Bike rentals were cheap. Even our room without AC was well ventilated and cool with the windows and fans. Awesome place. Highly recommend. And VERY reasonably priced.

After travelling in Nicaragua, it was such a pleasure to come to this place (again). This was my second time we stayed at Inti Resort. I can’t say enough about the staff...everyone was so genuine in trying to make sure everything was just right. The gardens are beautiful and the new restaurant amazing. , the food is great; the attention to detail by Gaby the main Chef at the restaurant was incredible. Room was immaculate clean.
I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking or a true tropical retreat, keeping the ecology of the planet seem the main concern of this hotel
Now if you are looking for telephones on the room, room service and the luxury of the city you better keep looking.

My wife and I stayed at the Perla Negra in January. It was a great experience. The hotel has a diverse group of people staying in a beautiful, rustic hotel right on the water. Oscar, the manager, is superb and streered us to a great Italian restaurant in Puerto Viejo, the city a mile away. We had some rain during our trip bit it was part of the experience, especially its sounds on the roof as we slept at night.
We loved it. Great place. Be a little adventurous and stay there. You will not regret it.

Unforgettable. Miguel from the hotel picked us up in La Pavona, which was a nice surprise. Hotel is located in the jungle, 5 minutes boat ride from the town ($10 per family one way) but honestly, after visiting the village if Tortuguero and the National Park, the hotel setting was better. It welcomed us with large group of spider monkeys residing I the nearby trees, tucans, turtles 20 yards from our house, caiman, parrots and a sloth. The hotel staff is passionate, they told us about animals and their habits. 3-course delicious breakfast is included and other meals very good and well priced. The rooms need some updating bit they are very clean, bug-free and large and comfortable. Eve though it was raining most of our stay, it was the best place we have stayed in Costa Rica. If you consider going to Costa Rica Caribbean Paradise is a must. You will see all the animals through your room window and peple who know and care about them. Loved it!
