"Lovely Hotel"
We were in Venice from the 10th to 12th March 2014. I found this hotel online and the rooms looked really nice from the photos. I've not been to Venice before and I was pleasantly surprised how lovely they were. The staff were very helpful and the main hotel where you had your breakfast was clean and inviting. These rooms are separate to the main hotel and are literally 30 seconds away. There is a small supermarket opposite, so keep your windows shut at night unless you want to get woken up early with the deliveries, although this isn't really a problem. I would definitely come back to this hotel and recommend it for a short city break. The breakfast had the normal cold ham, cheese, fresh fruit, coffees and juice, lots of croissants and various cakes, as well as hot scrambled eggs, sausages and bubble and squeak fritters which was a great way to set you up for the day.

"Nice hotel in a great location!"
When looking at hotel options in Venice, we didn't think we would get anything too great unless we paid a hefty price tag. Lucky for us Hotel Da Bruno exceeded all our expectations, were very reasonably priced and I would recommend them without hesitation. The room itself was spacious, very clean and quiet. Breakfast was good, and the staff really nice and helpful. Location wise, the hotel was easy to find - and a short walk (5 mins) in one direction to the Rialto Bridge area or a short walk (5-10 mins) in the other direction to San Marco square. This actually worked out really well as we felt we got to immerse ourselves in Venice, it's smaller canals and alleyways, passing by so many shops and restaurants as we walked to those main tourist centres.

"Kind helpful staff/great location"
On our first day in Venice, my companion fell and broke her leg at a nearby museum. The hotel staff was so kind and helpful--especially Mr. Davide. So, this charming boutique hotel is more than just conveniently located near San Marcos; it is staffed by wonderful people.

"Beautiful hotel with great location in Venice"
This is the second time I've stayed at the Lux. Right next to the Piazza San Marco, the hotel couldn't be more perfectly located. The rooms are lovely and clean with beautiful Venetian decor. The staff are friendly and helpful. We were on the top floor for the first visit, and the third for the next--there is no lift, so all those stairs may be an issue for people with lots of heavy luggage, but not a big issue for us.

"Fantastic location, close to St Mark's Square."
Small, family-run hotel, a few minutes from St Mark's Square and a 5-10 min walk from the Rialto Bridge. Walk left on leaving the hotel, over the bridge with its gondolas passing beneath and you will be in the Campo Santa Maria Formosa, a really useful landmark when asking directions on getting lost in the maze of narrow streets, as we did frequently! Around every corner we saw people like us poring over maps. The family and employees were lovely, so kind and patient; the plentiful and varied breakfast was a pleasant surprise (do sample the pastries, as recommended by the father!); we ate so much and drank so much coffee that we needed only a light lunch! The location is fantastic yet this bustling side street goes very quiet after 11pm due, I read, to Venice's strict by-laws relating to noise - just the occasional passer-by or shutter being pulled down (our room was at the front of the hotel, directly above an excellent restaurant (the 'Artisti') where we ate so often that we were being given complimentary aperitifs and sorbets! On arrival we followed the useful directions on the hotel website from the S. Zaccaria water bus stop and had to ask directions only once, which we thought not bad for two elderly sisters after midnight! When we left, however, we tried to be clever and decided to walk to the Fondamente Nove water bus stop, forgetting that when we walked there before we didn't have luggage to manouevre over the (eight?) bridges!

Pocket Guide: Venice Castello 3 stars Hotels

Bordering San Marco and the Rialto and stretching east to some of Venice's quietest greenest parts, Castello is the city's most varied 'sestiere'. Its most famous aspect is the Riva degli Schiavoni waterfront next to the Bridge of Sighs, with picture-postcard views onto the lagoon. Yet a few yards from the tourist hoards, the backstreets are quiet and typically Venetian. There are many outstanding churches and art collections in this area.
