We loved our 12-night stay. It is 20km from Florence which is very convenient. The location is close to Tavarnelle, with lots of good restaurants and a supermarket. We divided our time between day trips and sightseeing and the pool. Our room was very comfortable, we had an extra bed for our daughter and there was more than enough space. We had a large balcony that was terrific for dining al fresco in the evenings. The pool was lovely with an outdoor bar terrace and very well maintained. Breakfasts were most generous with a laid back atmosphere and a very large selection of food for every taste. The real strength of this hotel lies in the staff who make you feel as if you are almost family! The manager Antonella is absolutely delightful, she has appointed the hotel stylishly and she exudes a warmth which is infectious to her staff. She has lots of excellent recommendations for local trips and where to eat, The reception will arrange bookings to any of the museums in Florence or Sienna, which allows you to chill and not have to plan too far ahead. We loved the towns south of Sienna and there are some great bargains to be had in the outlets north of Florence. Just ask at reception or chat with her over breakfast! We met a number of guests who come back regularly. One family has been coming every summer for the last 15 years! We also want to go back already…

I stayed in this hotel with my husband for 2 nights as part of a trip around Tuscany in June. It was in a beautiful location on the seafront and our room had a large balcony with a great view (we paid a little extra for this and it was worth it). The hotel has a lovely pool, but it was a little cold to swim in this early in the summer (June). The breakfast was delicious and included fresh coffee, a continental buffet and eggs and bacon cooked on request.
The restaurant served really excellent food - the seafood especially was really delicious. This was not included but is highly recommended. The terrace of the hotel was also a beautiful setting to eat dinner outside with a sea view.
The area around the hotel is quiet but nice. The beach is quite rocky and we preferred to sit by the pool. On a rainy day there was not much to do in the local area but with a hire car we were able to easily explore inland and further down the coast.

We had a great holiday based at "the old paper mill", whizzing around Tuscany in Florence (our hired Fiat 500 who did sterling work up and down and around the hills and winding roads). Colle is a good base if you prefer to stay in "real" Italy, and is close enough to the touristy bits (Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra etc) for days out. The hotel staff are great - friendly and helpful, and they didn't laugh at my amateur Italiano! Our room was clean and comfy with a lovely view of the old town.

Great hotel and staff! Very clean. The food is excellent. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. It's in a quiet town outside of Florence. Perfect for a day trip into the city while still enjoying the peace and quiet of the countryside!

A few days in Poggibonsi is enough, we were here for a friend's wedding and Alcide hotel is perfect for the price. You need a car as there isn't anything to do in PB, we couldn't even find a restaurant in the town! Out and about though is wonderful, we had dinner one night at Monteriggioni and another night at Vico Furbo in Vico D'Elsa. Its also only twenty minutes to drive to San Gimignano which is where we spent the second half of our trip, where one of the hotels in the main square was just a extra €30 per night.
The room is large enough, there are two bathrooms one with basin and bathtub the other with basin and toilet so that makes morning logistics for a married couple slightly easier. The hotel wifi works well, once you can figure out how to get connected. The free bottled water in the fridge was good. The TV is too small and without any international channels. The aircon is a little slow and ineffective and we couldn't figure out how to override the automatic operation. The breakfast was very average.
Overall we would recommend the Alcide for a few nights.

A boutique hotel it is not, however Hotel del Lago has other bonuses. Namely price and location to the designer outlets. The staff are actually really lovely when you get to know them a little, although you'll have to make an effort to speak in Italian as english is limited. I am a woman who often stays there alone, when I go on my shopping jaunts. I have done for over 6 years. I can't praise it enough. I always feel safe and secure. The Taverna del Lago up the road is also a hidden gem. Full of locals with authentic Tuscan fare. What you save in money you can always spend at Space, the Prada outlet! Kindly note: it is a few hours drive from Pisa airport, way south of Florence, but once you get the hang of where you're going (head for Roma and turn off at Incisa), you'll be fine.
