We couldn't catch a train in time so we decided to spring for a hotel. For those of you considering the same option for your travels, you will not be disappointed (given that you have the right expectations).
First, for those of you who aren't familiar with the Narita area, this hotel sits across the street from Keiseinarita station (as opposed to JR Narita), about 20 minutes by train away from the airport. The hotel, however, also offers a free shuttle that is infrequent but convenient if it fits your timetable.
The room was clean! After staying in various mediocre hotels elsewhere, I was really impressed considering the price point.
The room was small (for an American)! Estimating in retrospect, a room with a double bed left you about two feet of aisle for moving to the bathroom or exit. Also, unless you packed light (carry on or smaller) you're going to have to do some shuffling just to unpack for the night.
The bathroom was cozy, as expected, but clean with a nice ofuro (Jpn style bath. The high water pressure makes for an exhilarating refreshment before or after a long journey. As of Oct '14, they offered toiletries of various kinds so that a traveler need not supply his own shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrush, cotton swabs, etc. Enjoy exploring the treasure-trove of bathing accessories!
The only amenity we can speak of is the generous flatscreen television (given the room size).
