"extra comfortable, extremely friendly, ideal!"
The hotel is superbly located near the diplomatic quarter, near Sanlitun's Village and Yashow (for those who enjoy shopping and bargaining); there is a subway station close by with convenient connections to other lines. The only thing that needs improvement is their breakfast room, as well as breakfast itself - for those of us who do not eat Chinese food in the morning, the choice was poor. The hotel itself was excellent.

"Great hotel to get a feel of the feel Beijing."
Great location with a very helpful and friendly staff. Rooms are comfortable and charming. There is a sense of being in a neighborhood rather than a tourist area. Highly recommend this hotel!

"Perfect for me, for great location/basic comfort"
It really depends on what you are looking for. I really miss this hotel for its great location (walking distance to the top attractions such as Wang Fu Jing and TAM Square) and the basic comfortableness. It is on a quiet street despite proximity to the attractions. The room had no window - but it worked for me, as first it's at the end of the aisle and noise was really low (the rooms were not very soundproof), 2ndly to me a window only provides path for the smog which nowadays often plagues Beijing. At night it was perfectly quiet and dark. And the bedding was just what I like. Clean soft cotton and basic but comfortably supporting mattress. Surprisingly I did not get any aches/soreness I usually got sleeping in cheap hotel beds as I did elsewhere. On the other side, the room was definitely not at high end. The water was good and hot but the shower was directly onto the bathroom floor, with only a curtain shielding the cabinet from water. The room was very small with only space for a full bed, some basic furniture and not much more open space. I did not even both to go to the roof as everyone said it was not good, and did not try the breakfast which was optional and expensive. But what you want to see is outside, isn't it? Tips: Call if you need a taxi. The main road does not allow taxis to stop, the local street does but it is not where taxis usually pass by. Subway is very close. And many hotels do not provide heat until the official heat providing date in city.

"Great traditional Chinese atmosphere"
The major draw of this hotel is the atmosphere. It's in a traditional square courtyard, and all the rooms have traditional Chinese furniture and decorations. The staff are very helpful and speak good English, the breakfast is good, the rooms are warm in winter (they have heaters AND heated floors - woot!) and it's just a generally beautiful place to stay. Also, the location is good, pretty close to the Dengshikou and Dongsi subway stations, and there are several excellent restaurants closeby (try the hotpot restaurant, Hunan restaurant, or noodle restaurants on the next hutong over). It's kind of pricey for China (pretty normal price for the US), but if you're going to splurge, this is a great choice. :)

"Perfect Location"
This hotel is in a perfect location. Chongwenmen subway station is right outside the front door, and two large malls are close by. It is also very centrally located to get to many of the must see sights in Beijing via subway. The hotel staff was helpful and our room was always clean.

"Great hotel for returning visitors to Beijing"
Located not too far from the 109 bus line (can catch to Donsi subway station), Sha Tan Hotel is a great hotel for those who spend most of their time out and about. It is a 2 min walk to Jingshan Park (go there on Sunday mornings to hear the older Mao generation singing old revolutionary songs). It is nestled in an old hutong area (not the 'new' old hutongs that appear to attract naive foreigners). The staff are very friendly, some speak good English - however this is China so don't be surprised if you come across people who don't speak your language :) The room itself is nothing special, but large enough to not feel claustrophobic. The staff don't harass you to take tours (they actually referred me to the subway to access a POI). You don't even pass the front desk on your way in/out which is a bonus for those wanting to be left alone. Probably not a good hotel for first timers in Beijing.

"Brand new hotel - good location close to Tienamen"
Interesting hotel - very new. Management still working out a few kinks but staff were very helpful and friendly, most speaking English. The new rooftop bar was not open yet but this would be a plus once finished. The hotel is in the Qianmen tourist area, which is very convenient for walking to Tienamen, the National Museum and many other tourist destinations. It is also very close to the Qianmen Subway which gives easy access to the Summer Palace, the Airport and other locations. Room we had was tiny but entirely functional at 300ft2 - there was no bathroom door but all standard facilities were there including a free minibar, TV and wifi

"Excellent traditional style Chinese Hotel"
Its a really nice hotel situated very close to the subway station. The staff and the management of the hotel are all extremely cooperative and nice so being a first time visitor to Beijing --- its a great experience. I was travelling to Beijing for work and it was my first time in china so the assistance of the hotel staff proved really useful in all spheres. for tourists to Beijing a week at this hotel gives the perfect platform to explore this great city. Its convenient for south Asian visitors as well. the staff are very nice but if they speak better English that would be very helpful to the ordinary foreign visitor who does not know Chinese. there are a number of 7/11 style stores open 24/7 so getting things to eat or items of daily use isn't a problem. the BIG CHALLENGE with this property is locating the hotel within the hutong.. its almost impossible to do so in case you don't know Chinese or are unfamiliar with Beijing. Its near Andingmen station but landing at Andingmen without knowing where exactly to go isn't a good idea... do have a phone wherein you can get someone to check in Chinese with the hotel staff on how to get there else its going to be really difficult.
