A boom town during railroad construction in the late 1800s through to the 1920s, Lakeland in central Florida is still home to many significant buildings from that time period, many of which are on the National Register of Historical Places. During the 1930s, Frank Lloyd Wright designed Florida Southern College's campus. It is the largest one-site collection of Wright works in the world.
