This hotel is no longer a Best Western, which was a surprise, but we loved the location, the room, the amenities, and of course the heated toto toilet seat! The staff were bilingual and very helpful. They had a list of recommended restaurants and those we tried were excellent. If you aren't lugging a huge piece of luggage, you can take the bus or subway from Kyoto station. Otherwise it's a short taxi ride.

We stayed for 5 nights in kyoto Monterey hotel. Hotel staff were great and very helpful. I had organised to visit kokedera and that temple requires a pre booking as they will send you an admission postcard which was delivered to the hotel before our arrival in kyoto. When we checked in, the concierge had already printed out a map, timetable and suggestions to go pet to this temple. Very impressed. The only thing was the actual timetable was an older timetable so not correct. The hotel was also very helpful to organise baggage shipping to our next destination. They gave us an upgrade to our double room, and bed was enormous.

The hotel is very well maintained and is great value for money. There are coin-laundries on 3-4 floors along with vending machines inside the hotel. Most of the staff at the reception speak English. They also provide free umbrella and free bicycles if you need one. The Semi-double room I stayed in had a comfortable bed and all the other facilities as listed on Expedia. The Karasuma Oike Metro Station is just 2-3 minutes of walk from the Hotel. There are a lot of places to see within walking distance like The International Manga Museum and Nijo Castle. I loved the fact that there was a choice b/w Japanese & Western cuisine for breakfast. There are few eating joints & 7-11 nearby too. I had an Ice cream vending machine near my room & really spent a lot of money using it during my stay...haha.
