"great value for money"
Arrived at the hotel late after a long journey. Young male member of staff on the reception desk very friendly and helpful. Room just what we were looking for - plenty of space for 2 adults and 17 year old. Nice comfy beds and had a good nights sleep. Plenty to choose from for breakfast and all very tasty. Had requested soya milk in an email before trip and it was brought to us as soon as we mentioned it. Only problem we had to be in Lancaster at 9am so didn't get to spend enough time at the hotel :(

"Mixed Experience"
Thought I was in for a bad time when the first words I was greeted with were "you're early" after turning up 40 minutes before check-in time. Not what I want to hear after a four hour train journey. Then had to wait in restaurant while the only person on duty spent many minutes counting her till money. After that I couldn't complain about the rooms, the food or the service. One downturn was being wakened at 5:00 a.m. by the sound of numerous young, seemingly drunk men shouting, banging doors, doing push-ups and generally being disruptive in the hallways. When I opened the door to see what was happening I was asked by one if I could charge his mobile phone for him. When I mentioned it to staff, I was greeted by "well, it's a bank holiday". No apologies. Rooms were very clean. Lots of hot water. Lots of clean and good quality towels. Moderate free WiFi. Good breakfast offering. Price was extremely good. Big problems flushing toilet. A battle every time.

"Village Hotel"
On a summers evening a pleasant place to stay in a beautiful village setting. After dinner what better way to end than to sit outside in the evening sunshine (that's if you get any) with a glass of wine. Staff very friendly.

"Great room, food not so good"
Good value and excellent rooms... but be aware this is not a hotel in the usual sense, it's a pub with accommodation. Which means if eating in you have a 'chain pub' type menu to choose from. Still, worth a visit.

"Beautiful Victorian Mansion with great staff"
We didn't get a hot shower in the morning but it turned out to be user error. The staff bent over backwards for us and gave us 2 complimentary breakfasts to compensate. The booking was for 2 twins but they had already upgraded us to the penthouse suite with separate rooms and a sitting room before we arrived because the place had filled up. This place is exquisite if you're looking for charm! The staff was SO accommodating and treated us very well. Would DEFINITELY stay here again.

Pocket Guide: Lancashire Preston 3 stars Hotels

Once a thriving mill town, Preston has felt the pinch of de-industrialization like much of the northeast. The city is peppered with beautiful old buildings including the Harris Museum and St John's Minster. The River Ribble runs through the south of the city, where the old docks are undergoing regeneration. A little further up the Ribble is Brockholes: a nature reserve with bird-watching hides.
