If you like a hotel in the old town, mixed in with real local people, rather than an enclave apart, this is the hotel for you! The staff is efficient and friendly, and the accommodations pleasant in every way without being too luxurious. The prices are more than reasonable. The hotel is in a U-shape facing the ocean, five stories tall, with facing balconies. The daily breakfast buffet is outstanding, and there is often entertainment at night with dinner. The hotel is advertised as family friendly, which it is, but not so that others would not find it very comfortable and congenial as well. You can walk right off a main street of the old town, through the open doors of the hotel, out into the pool area (several different types of pool), onto the small boardwalk, onto the beach, and into the ocean! An unobstructed path! I have stayed here three times, and plan on coming back often!

"Great smaller hotel close to downtown and right on"
Great staff working here. They will accommodate any of your needs. Was able to walk to Malecon in 5 minutes. Food overall was pretty good. You are close to many restaurants if you want to eat outside of hotel.

My friend & I had a wonderful time celebrating out 50th birthday spending a week at the hotel. Staff was amazing from the check-in to the check-out. Great greeting from Miguel, always so helpful. Fun entertainment at the pool with Luis. Great food....thanks!!! Wish I could remember all of the staff's name they were all wonderful!!! The only thing we were not happy about was the staff planning excursions in the front lobby. We scheduled and paid for a night out only to be told the day of that there wasn't any room for us and we had to change all our other plans to reschedule our night out. Was told we would get something to make up for it and got nothing. That has nothing to do with the hotel itself, I have no complaints about the hotel staff.

We liked this hotel very much. It is older. On high tide the water laps the hotel. It was very clean. The staff was very attentive and friendly, very helpful. Restaurant service was a little slow. Bus service is directly across the street from the hotel. We liked the hotel and would stay there again.

I can not say enough positive things about the staff of the Riu Jalisco. They were awesome. The game staff (Memo and Alejandro) were an absolute joy!! They encouraged us at every game and made our experience memorable. This was our first trip to Mexico (on vacation) and the first time at an all inclusive. As long as you go with the right frame of mind, you will have a wonderful trip. First, get involved. The staff works very hard to provide a unique experience for their guests. Engage with them, and they will make your trip a joy. Two, this in not a luxury hotel. The accommodations were great (room size, view, bed, shower, linens, etc...), but you will be sharing your experience with a lot of the local people. Learn a few phrases in Spanish to help you be cordial, and you'll have a great experience. If you don't enjoy Mexican culture, go to Hawaii... Third, you will not find any "Top Shelf" liquors being served. If you want "Top Shelf", pay a lot more money. But, you may not experience a great Mexican vacation.

"We have been to Marival before and LOVED our time."
Unfortunately they were renovating so 2-3 restaurants were closed which was disappointing. But there were plenty of others and the choices and quality were the same - fabulous. Staff are amazing and always busy keeping the place clean and tidy. Very family orientated - its wonderful to see and experience.
I would like to see Expedia add an advisory to hotels etc that are renovating or have changed ownership or similar big changes to help travellers make better decisions.
