This gem of a hotel is housed in three former villas clustered in a walled garden in the beautiful and quiet Aventine neighbourhood. We found it close enough to walk to many of the historical sites (Colosseum, Forum, Caracalla Baths) and to the Trastavere restaurant district across the river. (Of course "walking distance" depends very much on the individual.) It's also a 5 minute walk to the famous keyhole view of St. Peter's Basilica through the gate of the Knights of Malta villa.
Copious breakfasts (included in the room price) are served in the glass sun-room and on the terrace in the garden. The rooms have a historical feel to them - high ceilings, painted panelling, marble bathrooms. Very friendly and efficient staff.
Staying here really enhanced our trip to Rome. Late afternoon aperitifs on the terrace, surrounded by terra cotta walls and lush greenery, were the perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of the tourist-filled historical sites.
