We absolutely enjoyed our stay with the Montani's, perfect hosts for an exceptional value in a prime location. The room was clean and comfortable, large windows that opened for fresh air and decent view, yet onto a quiet square to allow for restful sleep. The continental breakfasts were delivered right into our room, and a fully satisfying start to the day.

Loved this place, it is a nice clean 3* hotel in a fantastic location. Can walk to all the main attractions, no need for buses, metros or taxi's here. Loved watching the hustle and bustle, listening to locals playing lovely romantic music, people just sitting around relaxing, chatting, drinking and eating. Would definitely recommend.

Stayed here for 2 nights. The hotel rooms are small but the space is well optimized and functional. There are places to sit, room for luggage and hanging clothes. The room is contemporary, modern fixtures, small shower (typical for Rome), has air conditioning. The lobby area is small but offers other places to sit. Breakfast was very basic but enough for a start to the day. The price is very reasonable for Rome.
Location is excellent. You get to experience life of the people of Rome, not tourists. There are all kinds of shops nearby and restaurants. Prices are more reasonable. The hotel is steps from the metro. It's close to the train station which means you can train to the airport or other parts of Italy. We took a taxi to the Int'l airport and it was $50 euros.
There is always someone at the desk to help with suggestions or arranging a taxi. Nice people and customer service focused.
A tip for those using this hotel ...
The hotel is on 2nd floor (starts at floor 0) in a mixed use building. The front door of the building is locked. You must press the buzzer to get access, go to the 2nd floor to find the door to the hotel. It's not intuitive but workable.

Hotel Santa Maria is a great place to stay in the lovely area of Trastevere in Rome. It is a calm place only a minute away from the vibrant Piazza! The staff were really helpful with directions around the City and also helped when we needed a European adaptor for our plug. Highly recommended!

Friendly, helpful staff. Even though our Italian was limited, we managed very well.
Please don't pull the cord in the shower - it's an emergency alarm & the night duty manager nearly broke the door down. It happened to several other hotel guests as well. I doubt if he would appreciate a healthy naked person staring in disbelief at him barging through the door.
The location is out of town but there is an excellent restaurant next door.

We very much enjoyed our stay in Rome. The hotel was clean, the breakfast had a variety of hot and cold options, the hotel is close enough to walk to the train station (10-15 min walk at most) and near several very good restaurants. All of the staff (except for 1) was pleasant, helpful and courteous. The bedrooms are adequate size, the bathrooms in some rooms are tight.
Rated at 5 stars even though displeased with the 1 front desk man.
