"Wonderful, quiet and clean - highly recommended!"
We traveled as a family of four, and chose the VP Mardono because it was situated close to family. The hotel is very quiet and clean, and the staff is very helpful and friendly. It is conveniently located near the metro (Diego de Leon stop) and several bus lines. There is lots of shopping nearby, and it is easy to walk to several major parts of the city from the hotel (we easily walked to Plaza de Sol and Plaza de Espana). While you wait to check in, they have water, ice and clean glasses in the lobby; in the morning, they also have orange juice. The room was very spacious, with four comfortable beds and plenty of closet space. The air conditioning works very well, The bathrooms are large (by European standards) with full-size bathtubs. A selection of toiletries is also provided. For part of our stay, we enjoyed the buffet-style breakfast offered by the hotel's restaurant, which we highly recommend. The selection is quite large (cheese, meats, fruit, juices, cereals, yogurts, bread, etc.), and they will make you eggs, omelets, bacon and/or sausages upon request. The food was very fresh and delicious. We stayed at the hotel twice during our stay in Spain, and plan to return on our next visit to Madrid.

"Comfortable Hotel, Great Breakfast, Good Location"
Room was comfortable and clean. We could have used a little more storage space. There were no drawers and just a few shelves in the small closet to put our non-hanging clothes on. We stayed for a week and this was a small issue. The breakfast was excellent and was available until 1030 in the morning, 1100 on the weekend. The metro station was only a couple blocks (less than 10 minutes) away. The center of madrid (Plaza Major) is about 5 stops on the metro. To get from the airport we took the number 200 city bus to the Avenida de America bus station ("Intercambiador") and then walked the four blocks to the hotel. It's an express bus that only makes a couple stops along the way. The price is one and a half euros, paid on the bus. (A taxi costs 30 euros)

Pocket Guide: Madrid Salamanca 3 stars Hotels

North of the Retiro, Salamanca has always been an affluent neighbourhood. Its grid-like streets and beautiful houses sprang up at the end of the 19th century, escaping from the old city walls. Today, ladies who lunch drop into its spas and designer shops, many of which line the long, sleek Calle Serrano. The National Library and the Museum of Archaeology are close to the Plaza de Colón.
