We spent 2 weeks in this hotel. The location of the hotel is good: a lot of restaurants and shops around. The cleanliness of the hotel is perfect, staff was friendly and helpfull, the set up and variaty of breakfast is exellent. Tv can be a little bit bigger and wifi can be stronger. We enjoyed staying there and recomend this hotel not only for weekend but for a long period.

Located in an upscale area, within waling distance of restaurants and a bit of shopping. Fantastic service by owner NELSON and a friendly staff. They can't do enough for you. Several guests were return or long-term folks and you can'
t have any better reference than that. We highly recommend this place and want to return.

This hotel was great mostly for its people. The desk staff, bartenders, wait staff, cleaning staff - all nice and very helpful. I travelled with my sister and we stayed in Cala - the rooms have names instead of numbers. We had 2 comfortable beds and a nice bathroom with a shower/tub combination. We were there from 7/2 - 7/8 and slept with the window open every night and were very comfortable.
In addition, the food was excellent! Breakfast was the same everyday and very good, but the dinners the chef prepared were some of the best around! Try the Spaghetti - who would have thought an Italian dish in CR would be so remarkable?!
The staff was helpful in confirming tour pick up times for us, responding to a call when we broke a class in the bathroom - eek, and even arranged to order and pick up a cake my sister requested for my birthday. I don't recall the name of the bakery, but the cake was to die for! I'm sure if you ask, they can hook you up.
Overall, a great place to stay!
One thing of note, there is a train that passes (down the middle of the street!) about 60 feet from the hotel. it didn't bother us at all, in fact we liked hearing it. But if you're sensitive to such sounds, be aware!

We stayed for two nights at Don Carlos. The staff was outstanding in their assistance, and English was spoken at the desk. The Hotel itself is like an art museum, and the Gift Shop at Don Carlos had a wide array of beautiful souvenirs - woodwork, art and jewelery. A welcome cocktail, buffet breakfast and 3 minute call to our country of origin and calls to anywhere in Costa Rica were included. I would recommend this hotel for the comfortable atmosphere and charm, cordiality and convenience. It is not a new hotel but that is part of its charm. It is central enough that travel including walking to attractions is convenient.

This is a lovely B&B run by the fabulous Laurie. She welcomed us into her home as if old friends and we were only staying one night. Situated between the two San Jose airports it's perfect for one night stopovers or longer stays. The en-suite room was conformtable and nicely decorated - unfortunately we din't get to sample the full breakfast due to a very early departure but the banana bread we were packed of with was delicious. We loved it!
Of course if you prefer to stay in corporate places and not speak to the staff, this is not the place for you!!

I stayed for one night mostly because it is a short and cheap trip to the airport but was very surprised by how much I liked this hotel. It was the cheapest of all of the hotels I have gone to in Costa Rica and also the nicest. The staff was very nice, even when I came down at 4 in the morning asking for help with a taxi. The hotel is owned by a couple and the bottom floor is a small Italian restaurant. The room was also the largest I had visited with an extremely comfortable bed. The city was very safe and nice. The park one block away is very pretty. My only complaint is that the bathroom was a little small. I honestly wish that I switched my last night hotel in San Jose with this one! It is closer to the airport and much safer.
