"Very nice hotel, close to the train & bus stations"
We really enjoyed our stay in Venice. We walked almost everywhere, but we did get a 24 hour pass for the vaporetto, so that we could take a least one trip on the Grand Canal, as well as visit Murano and Burano - when you return from your visit to these islands, the views of Venice from the water are amazing. Note: the vaporettos seemed to be crowded all the time, so we rarely got to sit down - even when we returned to the hotel late one evening. We had warm, sunny weather for our visit in April, so it was a pleasure to walk along the canals and narrow streets during both the day and the evening. There are many signs on the buildings, directing you to either the railway station or St. Mark's Square, so it is fairly easy to get yourself pointing in the right direction, even though you may feel hopelessly lost. Whenever you emerge into one of the many squares, there are always signs to help you orientate yourself. St. Mark's Square is alive with activity, and the Doge's Palace is very impressive. As with all the cities we visited in Italy, Venice was very clean and welcoming.

"Nice hotel right on canal"
My son and I stayed for 4 night in late June. This is a lovely little hotel on the Canal but away from the bustle of St. Marks. The room was very comfortable and had obviously been recently renovated. The walls were upholstered in a bright brocade fabric, which I loved. The room was in a charming older building so was small, but we expected that as we got a standard room. The air conditioning worked very well and the wi-fi was good, too. My son got used to the harder mattress after mild grumbling. The staff was awesome, especially Anka - they were ALL lovely and friendly and helpful. The breakfast was plentiful and fresh. We ate outside 2 nights at the nearby Ostaria al Vecio Pozzo, which was delicious. Good Caprese salad, lasagna, a nice steak, decent pizza. We loved the walk from the hotel through San Polo to the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark's. The Travastere area was charming and has lots of small cafes that are great for a lunch panini. The Doges Palace was fantastic, and we loved our trip to Murano. We also enjoyed the Vaporetto rides, as it was hot and you can only walk so much in a day. We bought the 3 day pass and used it more than enough to make it worthwhile. Getting to the hotel from the Venice airport was so easy. We hopped on the waiting ATVO blue bus for 6 Euros and were at P. Roma in 15 min., with a quick (but hot) walk to the hotel along the Canal from there. Email the hotel for your options and they will give you detailed instructions. We loved this hotel!

"nice family room"
We booked a family room and were positively surprised that we had a separate bedroom for the kids. Our room had a (small) bathroom, one double bed in one room and a nice pullout sofa in a separate room. The hotel is in a quiet location. Nothing is really that far in Venice but the hotel is closer to the train station than to the main tourist attraction. I personally like that part of Venice more as there are some nice non-tourist-trap restaurants close by. A COOP supermarket is 1 min from the hotel. Pros: VERY spacious (especially for Venice). good breakfast, very friendly staff, quiet location Cons:the internet service is so slow that it becomes unusable at times. When many other guests are using the service you often get disconnected and the speed is reduced to a crawl. If the hotel is empty it works fine. Everybody else had the same problem.

"go Venice"
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Reception girl provided the breakfast at time you desired. It was very close to ferry stop. Venice streets are scary in the night because they are too narrow and deserted. Other than the waterfronts, there are plenty of restaurants located inside these streets, and they provide authentic Italian food.

"Great Traditional Hotel"
Venice is beautiful it was everything we hoped for and more. We loved the relaxed atmosphere to just walk around with no traffic apart from boats. Dump the maps, be a tourist and just follow the signs and arrows if you do get lost its another picture perfect sight you will come across and you still end up back on track, all very easy and make use of the little local bars to try a prosseco and a little nibble or two, great for people watching, recharging the batteries and getting some shade. We enjoyed the sights and an afternoon of island hopping including a stroll on the beach at the lido and a roof top view and champagne cocktail at the Hilton sky roof. Didn;t rate Harrys bar, Belini at 16.50 with no view, only time we felt short changed. We didn't eat at the main square looked expensive and a little serious, we far more enjoy the smaller restaurants which seem to have more atmosphere and local banter. The views from the Tower in the square are great and the Rialto bridge is an experience. We really enjoyed Venice, just my husband and I, it felt very safe, relaxed, full of history and was a perfect break. The money we saved on getting the shuttle bus V water taxi, paid for a private Gondola trip, another great experience and something we had to do in Venice. Loved the whole trip.

Pocket Guide: Venice Santa Croce 3 stars Independent Hotels

At the start of the Grand Canal, Santa Croce is set immediately across from the bus station and railway station. It is a peaceful quarter adjacent to, but largely unaffected by the visitor hubbub. The picturesque Ponte degli Scalzi is a great place for watching the busy canal traffic and there are many fines churches to explore off the beaten tourist track. The Rialto Bridge is only a 10-minute walk or boat ride away.
