"Great city location"
Great location in Central SF. Just about squeezed 2 beds into room for kids but suspect families not target audience for this hotel. No worries from us though, excellent location, staff, and we had a great time

"We will be back!"
My wife and I greatly enjoyed our stay. The Hotel Carlton is a well refurbished, character hotel, in a central downtown location of San Francisco. A newness without loosing it's history, or charm. We are retired, but had no difficulty finding excellent dining and entertainment at the hotel and within a few blocks. Transportation to and from San Francisco International, Fisherman's Wharf, China Town, museums, Golden Gate State Park, tour buses, etc. greatly expanded our trip to view the Ai Weiwei art exhibit on Alcatraz. We are from Denver and the culture of the Hotel Carlton and San Francisco was just what we were hoping it would be. We will be back! Thank you.

"Excellent"
Great position close to Union Square for shopping and eating. Hotel is comfortable , quiet and the 5-6pm cocktail hour (well wine hour) is just lovely. Staff are wonderfully attentive. Stayed here many times and have not found a reason not to.

Where to stay in Union Square

Pocket Guide: San Francisco Union Square 3 stars Pet-friendly Hotels

Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Cable cars turn around at Powell and Market streets to head back to Fisherman's Wharf.
