"Beautiful setting"
Even though I arrived late and in the rain and they were very welcoming, showed me to my room and the facilities and left me to it. Just what I wanted on a wet night. The bed was very comfortable and the linen of a good quality. The hotel is set in a gorgeous setting on the East Dark River. Breakfast is in the conservatory over looking all this with a lovely hot meal served with a spread of cereal, yogurt and fruit. After breakfast I had a lovely walk out past the gardens and along the river.

"Restful hotel rooms with great restaurant"
We spent 4 nights at this little gem of a hotel. 4 lovely rooms named after the ducks which run around in the gardens. Great restaurant, very busy but attentive service and well cooked food. Hearty breakfast each morning.

"Pub with decent rooms"
The pub is in a village with easy access to the A38 and in the village centre which is quiet. It is NOT a gastropub but a typical village pub with rooms above which are better than many pub rooms. The rooms have spacious ensuite facilities and decent d├ęcor. The building is very old (16/17th century) so the floors are far from level which did not bother us but may bother those not used to living in old buildings. The entrance to the parking area is tight if you have a large car. Breakfast was in the bar and excellent. The pub also has tea rooms attached to it for those wanting a cream tea whilst staying. Noise can be heard from the bar but except for Saturday night does not go on too long into the evening.

"Highfield House B&B"
Helen and Paul were fantastic hosts, Highfield House is the best B&B we have ever stayed at. Located in the small village of Lustleigh, Devon the setting was magnificent. There are also great meals at the local pub The Cleve. Thank you Helen for the great breakfasts and doing that extra 10% for us We will certainly return if travelling through Devon again. "Excellent Guest House in excellent location."
We really enjoyed our stay. The room was very spacious, well furnished, immaculately clean and had spectacular views over Dartmoor. Breakfast and service all excellent. Great location - only a mile or so from Okehampton town - right on the edge of Dartmoor - midway between the North and South Devon coasts.

Pocket Guide: Devon Dartmoor 4 stars Hotels

A fascinating contrast of wild empty landscapes, manicured beauty spots and picture-postcard villages, Dartmoor is one of southern England's last wildernesses, where ponies, sheep, and cattle graze freely. Most popular for day-trippers is the south east of the moor with wooded valleys and cascading streams. The central and northern parts feature wild open moorland with imposing rock outcrops ('tors'). The whole area is a walker's paradise.
