Pretty fancy for Costa Rica! This place is lovely, right on the beach although from most of the rooms you can't see it through all the lush landscaping. It is very remote, over rough dirt roads. But that is part of what makes it special. For surfing Marbella, one of the best waves in Costa Rica, it is ideal. The non surfers get to enjoy the luxury accommodations and beautiful pool....and the included ocean view breakfast is lovely.

"Unbelievably spacious and modern 3-bedroom condo"
We stayed in a 3-bedroom condo unit at Crystal Sands. The defining feature is that it was unbelievably spacious. 2 of bedrooms had a king-size bed and 1 of the bedrooms had 2 queen size beds. Each bedroom had a walk-in closet. It was a 2-level condo with balconies on both levels, one of which had a hot tub. There was a large kitchen and, separately, a large bar area. The dining had seats for 8, but could have sat at least 12. There were 6 of us in this condo -- so we had a LOT of breathing room. :) Other than that, we got 1 garage parking space. The condo is directly on the beach, but the beach right behind is rocky and not very swimmable. You can walk on the beach to the swimmable Tamarindo beach, it is a 10 minute walk. There was a small grocery store within walking distance, but besides that, everything else was in the town of Tamarindo.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Villa Buena Onda for a week in March, and we would recommend it to anyone!
Shelley, Diana, Christian and Javier were all so personable and kind. They made us feel right at home and we didn't have to lift a finger! The villa was beautiful, clean, and had a great layout. We had privacy when we wanted it, but could also interact with other travelers/staff when we wanted to be more social.
Shelley was incredible. Two weeks before our trip, I realized I had booked our flights a day before we booked the villa! She graciously switched the villa reservation with Expedia so I didn't have to worry about it. She was a great resource while choosing our excursions and schedules. She really listened to what we wanted to do, and recommended the perfect excursions and activities for us!
Transportation was a breeze. All we had to do was tell Shelley or Diana what we wanted to do, and they would arrange transportation to pick us up right from the villa. The food was also divine. They had great variety and a nice mix of both local fare and North American options. Each meal was an experience in itself: trying different things, enjoying the fresh produce and seafood, and relaxing while enjoying the beautiful view.
I would recommend Villa Buena Onda to anyone who wants to have more personal and intimate accommodations, while also getting the same luxury and service from a traditional resort. Perfecto!

Be prepared to be enchanted! The rough road leads to an amazing hotel with even more amazing people. This was a family vacation with our two older teenage children. From the beginning until the end, it was a vacation of a lifetime. We were greeted in the parking lot by a friendly face who turned out to be our concierge - this was a wonderful surprise! After our long journey, he recognized that we were hungry, and so he escorted us to the restaurant for a relaxing lunch and complimentary drink - oh, by the way, he checked us in as we gazed over the beautiful ocean view. The next trip was to our 3 bedroom villa that I can only say was amazing. The kids wondered if we had become rock stars since we left the States... yes, it was that amazing. The 1st night we thought we heard a gorilla... turned out to be a howler monkey - a veryLOUD howler monkey. By the end of our 1st day, our teenage son declared that he would have to stop saying everything was amazing because, well, everything was amazing! Our trip was filled with encounters with a truly caring and courteous hotel staff, first class food and accommodations, views to die for, wildlife sights and sounds from National Geographic, and did I mention the amazing people? We would return to Punta Islita in a heartbeat, and we actually discussed the need to start playing the lottery with the hope of returning to beautiful Costa Rica sooner vs. later. It is truly PURA VIDA!
