We stayed one week at the Hallmark Croyden and enjoyed it. Staff was pleasant, room was comfortable. Americans would be happy here; had the basics: restaurant/bar, private bathroom and shower, flat screen TV with dozens of unwatchable British channels, clean/quiet halls, large foyer area for relaxing, close to the busline.
We did not have a car for our trip and didn't have any trouble navigating London. Bus drops off and picks up less than one block from the front door of the hotel and takes you to and from the East Croyden Train station where you can get to central London or Gatwick easily. We flew in to Heathrow and it was about 90 minutes of trains and a bus, but I would recommend Gatwick, if possible. There is free wifi in the building, but it's sketchy at times. There was a small refrigerator and hot-water pot (tea pot) in our room.
