"Excellent hotel, handy for city centre"
We stayed here for two nights in January 2015. The purpose of our visit was to see friends in Edinburgh and do some sight seeing, and for our purposes this was an excellent choice, close to shops, nice restaurants and bus routes. We didn't eat at the hotel (other than breakfast) so can't comment on the food. The buffet style breakfast for £12.50 was as good as buffet style breakfast gets, which is to say it was reasonable. We would have preferred freshly cooked but at £17.95 thought it rather expensive. Bar prices were as expected, with excellent service and plentiful nibbles to accompany. The room was very well appointed, clean and comfortable, and room cleaning was prompt and top rate. A minor niggle, the reading lights on either side of the bed didn't have separate switches so had to be both on if I wanted to read after my wife wanted to sleep, also the room lighting was a little on the low side for us, though this seems to be usual nowadays. Overall this was an excellent choice, pretty much exactly what we wanted for a high value weekend away, though obviously not cheap.

"Our Best Stay yet in Edinburgh"
Beautiful classic hotel with lots of public space and character. Location so very near to Princess street and The Royal Mile couldn't be better. Our room was large and comfortable with a big comfy bed !. Views from our window included Arthurs Seat and Carlton Hill with a great view of the Firth of Forth - wonderful !! All of the staff without exception throughout our 7 day stay were friendly helpful and efficient whilst appearing very happy in their work. Our only gripe - on our first 2 days we were supplied with hot chocolate sachets as well as coffee etc. but didn't get any more in the week !

"Great location for Hogmanay and not too noisy"
Would definitely recommend to friends. Loved the Scottish room decor and used the pool which was empty over Hogmanay. Great staff and doormen.

"Good location. Great Staff"
Stayed here for 2 nights in January 2015. There is work going on in the hotel, which was not mentioned when booking on Expedia, but the hotel contacted us direct to explain. At the moment the ground floor is off limits. It did not affect our stay. All the staff were polite and helpful. The room was a reasonable size, well equipped, the bed softer than I would prefer, but was actually more comfortable than I thought it might be. Breakfast was great, plenty of choice and the crispiest pastries I have had in a long time (fresh).

"Fab: central Edinburgh - spotless and welcoming"
Hi, this place is about 10 minutes walk from Waverley (once you manage to get out of the station and find the right road), situated just off the Royal Mile (which has more kilt and whiskey shops than one can shake a stick at). I was visiting for the Edinburgh international cross country to cheer on my daughter; it's held annually in Holyrood park (5 mins walk) so is placed perfectly if you fancy being close to central bars/shops but also may enjoy taking a stroll around the beautiful Arthur's seat and visiting the surprisingly ugly and uninspiring Scottish Parliament building (I do like modern architecture: just not bad modern architecture). Staff are welcoming, although to be honest you don't need them much: my apartment was lovely, spotless, amazingly well equipped, and surprisingly quite. The hotel is tucked away in what I guess would of been a courtyard, off the main road, so it's very quite with very little street noise, although someone fell over in the corridor at 4.15 in the morning and thought this was very funny - still: live and let live, and after a while I started to laugh as it took him 10 minutes to find his room ... Couldn't really fault the position, value and space - excellent will stay again.

"A quiet hotel close to everything"
This hotel, owned by the College of Surgeons, is on a quiet street yet has easy access to the more important sights. The restaurant and breakfast buffet are excellent. The staff is friendly and helpful. I very pleased. I was there alone on business, but my husband and I will stay there when we visit Edinburgh on vacation.

Pocket Guide: Edinburgh Old Town 4 stars Hotels

With narrow, winding streets and alleys, this mediaeval district is a contrast to New Town. Acting as the main artery, the Royal Mile begins at Edinburgh Castle and ends at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Royal Family’s residence. Many tourist attractions are found in Old Town including the National Galleries, Royal Museum, and St. Giles Cathedral.
