"Stylish hotel with great character"
We stayed two nights which included a full English buffet breakfast which was excellent, we also dined in the restaurant and again, we were very pleased with the service and quality. We benefited from some lovely weather so we spent a lot of time on the bar patio area and also around the front grounds of the hotel, which were all very well maintained and attractive. We would not hesitate to return for another visit in the future.

"Exceeded expectations by a long way"
For a hotel predominantly serving business customers and motorway drivers I was pleasantly surprised at how good our overall experience was especially given some of the reviews. Six very dirty walkers in three twin rooms on a busy Saturday night were made very welcome. Customer service from all staff was excellent. Food, both dinner and breakfast was good for hotel fare, reasonably priced and fresh. Rooms were of a good standard and having a bath as well as a shower was just the ticket. Staff were quick off the mark when a brief power cut in one room interrupted a long soak. Only two small negatives: one room was exceedingly hot even with window open and no radiator on and the wine was ridiculously expensive for some fairly mediocre bottles. Other than that a good nights stay and excellent preparatiopn for another days lonmg walk.

"Great time at a lovely hotel."
We stayed at the hotel for a single night and really enjoyed our stay. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the food was superb. The only downside was the lack of a bath in our bathroom. However, the other facilities were great. We would definitely stay there again if we were in the area.

"Lovely hotel"
We stayed here for one night following on from a wedding at The Villa in Wrea Green, great location as only 5 minutes away from the hotel. We needed an early check in so for an additional 20 pounds we had the room from 12. Obviously paying isn't ideal but it does only give them an hour to turn the room around and the room was spotless so can't really complain The room itself was clean and comfy, the bathroom (particularly the shower) was really nice and the staff were lovely and sorted out our taxi to the wedding. Breakfast was pretty good too, sausages were tasty! Overall, very happy with our stay!

"Superb family-run hotel, comfortable and relaxing"
Although there was an event on when we arrived, the car park is ample and had many spaces. Reception is a relaxed area where we were given excellent attention and provided with all the information we needed for a good stay. Our room was of a good size with a window onto the garden/function area and a sofa. The room had a fridge and the usual refreshment facilities. Fresh local milk was provided in a fridge in the corridor. The television had all main sky channels and was straightforward to use. We used the swimming pool on Sunday morning, which is a great facility as non-guest cannot use it. The only downside to using the pool was that the water was cold. Check-out was quick. We also visited their family garden centre a few miles up the road. Hotel guest can claim a free drink at the garden centre. It is definitely the best garden centre I have ever been to. I would definitely stay there again if I am in the area.

"'Lodge' in the the memory"
Unlike most that stay I was not part of a function just basing myself in Preston for a series of meetings over two nights. I stayed in the lodge which was excellent. As a location for weddings it is tremendous but I found the location near'ish the M6 was great too. Facilities, decor - overall quality was very good. Four rooms all presented to a high standard with sofa beds in two plus a sleigh in the master. Staff were very friendly and breakfast was very tasty. Whilst unusual I recommend the lodge at Samlesbury highly.

Pocket Guide: Lancashire Preston 4 stars Hotels

Once a thriving mill town, Preston has felt the pinch of de-industrialization like much of the northeast. The city is peppered with beautiful old buildings including the Harris Museum and St John's Minster. The River Ribble runs through the south of the city, where the old docks are undergoing regeneration. A little further up the Ribble is Brockholes: a nature reserve with bird-watching hides.
