Great hotel in perfect location for all tours, sightseeing etc. I agree with many others that it can get a little noisy on a weekend but unless you are a very light sleeper don't let that bother you. Staff are very friendly and happy to help with booking tours, restaurants though eating at the hotel was very nice so worth a try. We upgraded to a junior suite which wasn't much more than the standard room and from what I picked up from other guests we did the right thing as our room was quite spacious and it was nice to have a leather corner sofa to chill out on instead of just the bed.
Iceland is a stunning place and this hotel is tucked away nicely so as a base to do the tours we booked which was the northern lights by boat ( dress warm! ), a super jeep golden circle day ( awesome, especially glacier part ) and Blue Lagoon en route back to the airport. Don't let the rumour about high prices put you off, if you can stomach London rates then you will be fine and this as with many other hotels / bars, do a happy hour from 5-7pm every day with a beer at about £2.50. If you wanted to avoid the noise issue then book one of the other Centerhotel's in the town which were a little more remote but still within walking distance of the sights. Cant recommend the place or hotel too highly, only had 3 days there which is maybe a little too short but will definitely be back....now go and book up!!!

Stayed her for 3 nights with my family in September 2014. The hotel is in a great location, within a few minutes walking distance of city centre and on a street full of interesting shops. The rooms are small, but very clean and have everything that is needed and everything works! The beds are comfortable which is always important. The staff were all friendly - we spoke to reception staff, the housekeeping staff and the breakfast staff. Breakfast itself was also very good although we only used the breakfast buffet, which had everything we wanted with no waiting.
The only thing against the hotel is the noise from outside at night. I think this is a problem for all the hotels on the Laugavegur - the main street. There was a bar just beside the Center Hotel but I think people just talk loudly in general while walking up the street. We were usually tired out after our day and it made no difference to us getting to sleep. It is also not the hotel's fault.
Overall, we thought this was an excellent hotel and would recommend it.
