We stayed at Planet Apartments for 4 nights. The apartment was clean and very spacious. We had a fantastic view of the Old Harbor. It was only a five minute walk from downtown with restaurants and shops on the way. There was a full kitchen and the bathroom had a washer/dryer. There was also a small balcony. Parking was free in a secure garage under the building.

Hotel Holt continues to be a reliable choice of accommodations in downtown Reykjavik. Close to the main tourist areas (the church, the museums, the Harbor), it is also pleasantly nestled back a few streets from the main street (Laugavegur) so it quiet and calm. Included in the price is a pleasing breakfast of cheeses, meats, pastries and coffee. The free wifi is also great. It makes an excellent base for going out in Reykjavik and is also well connected with tour operators, if you are looking to get out of town to see one of the many nearby sites (Golden Circle, whale watching, etc.). It is not a trendy boutique or extraordinarily fancy hotel but it holds its own and is a great value.

The apartment was very comfortable and nice. Walking distance (about 15 min max) to all the main sights. This was the first time we have stayed in an apartment versus a hotel and there are some pros and cons. I missed having hotel staff to help with information and directions. Also, because our flight arrived late it meant we had to contact the owner when we landed (via email, since I didn't have an international cellular plan) and then had to wait about 10 min outside before someone came to let us in. Having the space of a 1 bedroom apartment with a kitchen/dining/living room was nice. Having to take out our own trash in the end was a little inconvenient--and again just a small luxury you don't need to do when you stay in a hotel. The amenties were all nice. Though we didn't use it having laundry in the unit was a nice benefit. Our only complaints were these two things: 1) There was a window in the shower without blinds that limited upper body privacy (for females), though once the steam built up in the window it was less of a concern. 2) Though we turned all the heaters off, the apartment stayed pretty hot. Fortunately it was cool outside and opening the windows helped. we kept wondering though if there was still heat on somewhere, or if we couldn't fully turn it off.
Further, a phone in the apartment (maybe only for local numbers?) would have been nice, especially since there is no staff on site to answer questions.

Wonderful place, host extremely helpful. Very comfortable and great to be sleeping in a double bed after all those single beds in Iceland.
Host rescued us after we had got off the bus six stops too soon!
