"Gorgeous, amazing staff, perfect balance"
The property was very well-maintained and everything was high quality. The beach and water were spectacular and not overly crowded. The staff was very friendly and upbeat, constantly encouraging guests to enjoy themselves and relax. There was variety in the food and plenty of included and additional activities available. On Mother's Day there were red roses given to the mothers at dinner...a nice touch without ever pushing to sell anything. We did a catamaran excursion, massages on the beach, and water aerobics. The variety of guests gave a great balance to the trip....all ages and groups were welcome here. You can bring the kids for the piñata, games, and kid-friendly food. You can also have a romantic trip or a fun-filled girls' getaway. So glad we tried this hotel...we will be looking at other Riu properties for future trips!

Just arrived home after 9 days at the Barcelo. Beautiful place, very well maintained, except the beach. I was very annoyed at the 3 feet wide of seaweed you had to walk through to get to the ocean every day , no matter where you were along the beach. Our room was clean when we arrived, maid service maid bed everyday and emptyed garbage, that was it! Restaurants are very nice, no problem ever finding something to eat. Staff very friendly. I did not realize this was a "family oriented resort". Everything revolved around children/teens , from daytime to nightlife. No nightlife for adults, unless you want to bowl, disco with pre teens or shop in VERY expensive stores. No beach music, very disappointing!! There is pool games everyday, all day long , which means you listen to a Spanish speaking staff screaming in a microphone all day, 11am to 5 pm daily. Found no point of joining in when I don't speak Spanish and had no idea what they were saying! This was my 5th trip to Mexico, but was the 1st time all pool side or beach activities/music was all in Spanish. Was extremely disappointed with that, but did not let it ruin my vacation. Had a great time with my husband for our 10 yr. anniversary.

"Big resort good for family with young children"
We had a great time at Grand Palladium White Sands. We travelled with an infant and a toddler. We stayed in White Sands villa 52 which is right by the train stops to go to different lobbies. Walking to both lobbies are also not bad even with the kids. We spent most of our time at the beach close to Colonial because it's more accessible from the buffet restaurants compared to the beach close to White Sands. The beach at Colonial is not rocky. We snorkeled at the White Sands beach but did not see that many fish. We really enjoyed swimming at the Colonial, clean water and little waves even on a red flag day. Rooms: junior suites are big, clean and new, 2 doubles and 1 sofa bed, great for families. Towel art was great. We got one room on the bottom floor and one on the top floor. The bottom floor is great because of the strollers, but there were a lot of mosquito hanging out at the door so we had to get in and out quickly and still got mosquito in the room at night. Service: mini bar did not get refilled when we checked in, there were opened bottles. Called the housekeeper and got promised that it will be refilled but it never did. Got room serviced the next day, and still no refill even though we left tip. We eventually wrote a note and it was refilled when the room was serviced again. Staff: friendly and nice. Activities were fun and great because of the staff. Food: very good compared to other all inclusive we've been to.

"Great hotel with great beach"
Hotel was excellent. Grounds are lush and clean with great walking paths. Room was large and clean. Good entertainment with theater shows and live music in lobbies. Meals were good with plenty of variety and locations. Setbacks: 1) property is large so need to use the transportation within the property at times. The wait is too long so can be frustrating. 2) Not enough wait staff to provide drinks at pools nor at the beach. In fact, never had anyone come by while we were at the beach at The Colonia. Long wait at bar. 3) Although most staff were friendly, there were a few that had an attitude which bordered on rudeness.

"Needs to be advertised as a kids hotel"
Hotel was nice. Beach okay. Pools on family side over run with kids and pools on adult side over run with drunk adults. I don't have an issue with drinking but being loud is another thing. The adult side hot tub was cold and the family side hot tub was more of a kiddie pool. We were able to use the family side hot tub once and every other time there were at least 20 little children in it. The hotel said no one under 12 was allowed but the majority of kids were between 5 and 10. The restaurants and bars were good and staff extremely friendly. Last thing, if you are planning to SCUBA, find a local dive shop. The on site dive center is nice and people are great but prices for tanks and the extra you have to pay to do decent dive is crazy.

I was a little worried about some of the reviews but since it had mainly good reviews I decided to stay here and I'm glad I did. The hotel is so nice and clean their private beach is small but great for family. Their restaurants serve all kinds of different food therefor plenty to choose from. The staff is super friendly and always helpful. They had other activities for those who want to stay in the hotel I wasn't able to do any of them since we had a super jammed schedule. I think the best part is that they have private entrances to the xcaret park which is amazing! Definitely recommended for families or couples or even just a quick getaway

"Stayed in adults only section"
We stayed in the adults only section, my goodness it was a half mile walk to get to the ocean/beach. They state they have a cart which makes stops at pick up locations. The carts were either full or were hiding somewhere because we never ever caught a ride on one. They must only have one cart for the entire facility. Was very disappointed in this end of service. If you have health issues or don't like to walk DO NOT stay in the Adults Only area. The food was alright, I found it lackluster and not very tasty or flavorful. There are many options to choose from but here again if you are in the adults only section be prepared to walk to get to the restaurants. There were 2 restaurants close to the adults only area both steak houses. Good food as it is prepared fresh not a buffet atmosphere. They did have great entertainment all day and night. If you want to use a computer bring your own. The wi-fi is pretty good. They have 2 computers in the Elite club but they are old and out of date. One keyboard was so old the letters were literally faded away. Neither of the keyboards have the "@" symbol for you to check your email etc. The beds and pillows were super hard causing muscle aches for our entire wedding party of 30, to complain and have a poor nights sleep. If you like to drink and party this is the place for you unlimited alcoholic beverages and plenty of activities for all. It was very hot and muggy for our stay but the A/C worked fabulous. I'm not entirely sold on the resort
