We stayed in an Executive room (approx. 50sqm). Nice hallway and walk-in robe, very spacious bedroom and bathroom with separate toilet and shower. The room was absolutely gorgeous, high quality and pleasant neutral décor. There was nothing to fault. The hotel is quite large and slightly impersonal. Found the check-in staff a touch 'cold' without being rude. Having said that the rest of the service during our stay was friendly and impeccable. The room was a touch pricey however it was worth it. The location was fabulous, walking distance to just about everything and the rooms were totally welcoming, spacious and comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel and would most definitely stay here again when I visit London.
I do wish to touch on one unfortunate experience upon check-in that could have been handled a lot better. We arrived after a long flight with 2yr old twins and were informed that our room wouldn't be ready for 20mins. No big deal, so we went to the restaurant to have lunch, we were exhausted and hungry. When we returned 45mins later our room was still not ready, it would take another 20 minutes of waiting. I found it interesting that none of the check-in staff showed us to a comfortable waiting area (given that one of twins was asleep in my arms), offered us a drink or at least a snack for the kids. We made no fuss, but a small gesture in such a situation can mean a lot (hence the "impersonal" experience).

Very clean and modern hotel. Spacious rooms for families, with great kitchen facilities in the suites. Easy access to supermarkets, shopping, and transport at Canary Wharf. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

The Sofitel St James is a beautiful escape from the bustle of London. Gloriously decorated, friendly and welcoming staff and opulently understated surrounds make this a delightful hotel. Our room was next to the gym and we never heard a thing the building is so well designed to control noise. The breakfast was delicious each morning and the bar staff produced perfect drinks each evening. Our only grizzle was the bathroom door which was dreadful - French doors that did not allow for noise separation between it and our bedroom. Other than that, it was a perfect stay.

From the moment you arrive, and the top-hatted doorman orders your luggage removed from the cab while a finely suited attendant walks you to the quiet space where check-in is managed, every detail of service at the Savoy is equal to - and usually a notch above - what we have experienced anywhere.
Of course, the room was perfectly appointed and every comfort exactly as one would expect. We'd leave in the morning for touring, and return late afternoon to find everything perfect. Then come back after dinner to find a totally freshened, restocked room with all the turn-down details attended to.
One evening we called ahead for a table at one of the hotel's restaurants. We arrived to be seated at one of their best tables, and greeted by a server who was already knowledgeable about our key food and beverage preferences. Throughout, a service person might ask our room number just once, and then everyone who served us during that meal or other need would address us as Mr. and Mrs. xxxx. Order our coffee or toast a particular way one morning, and the next day's server would know our preference.
Today there are many fine hotels. But unless you are on a VIP list or a frequent visitor, service at even the finest is often impersonal and indifferent. This is where the Savoy really shines - treating even one-time tourist visitors like us as if we were royalty.
