"Better for business than vacation"
We booked this hotel as a base to return to Athens from a cruise, from which to plan and proceed on to some tours of the Greek islands. We called in to visit about 2 weeks prior to our booking to see whether the hotel had an airport shuttle and could we book onto it for our return flight from Istanbul. No shuttle, and the abrupt manager curtly advised that he could organise a flat rate taxi. He gave us no indication of the metro service or bus service that could get us close to the hotel at a fraction of the cost. Arrival itself was pleasant. The room was small but generally clean, however a bit old and tired. Curtain tie backs had come loose from the wall, and the tile grout in the bathroom was moldy. The room was made up each day, but there were small annoyances, such as the used drinking glasses not being cleaned or replaced. There is an in house restaurant, but not many other facilities in the immediate vicinity, a couple of small cafes. It is walking distance to the ferry terminal area, but not with large suitcases. For a 5 star hotel, it was a little disappointing. I would be happy to stay here again if I was on a business trip and had meetings in Piraeus, but would probably not recommend it as a vacation stay unless staging for an island ferry.

Pocket Guide: Athens Piraeus 5 stars Hotels

Athens’ port since the fifth century BC, Piraeus today is an industrial affair, eight kilometres southwest of the centre. Ferries, catamarans and hydrofoils connect to the islands, and cruise ships doing the Mediterranean circuit stop here. The pretty fishing harbour of Mikrolimano is lined with seafood eateries, and the circular bay of Pasalimani filled with luxury yachts.
