From arrival staff were very helpful eg carried bags to room and brought fresh milk. Room 8 was spacious. Supply and quality of toiletries was better than most hotels I have stayed at. Breakfast was excellent with numerous choices and taken in room which overlooked garden making it a pleasant start to day. The hotel is within walking distance of city but there is also regular bus service practically opposite hotel which takes you to train station and city. Altogether a nice visit and helped to make weekend visit to York more enjoyable.

Our "room" was a cottage - very spacious and comfortable. The "double" bed was actually huge, and everything was clean and comfortable.

"Outstandingly the best!!"
This is, by far, the most beautiful, exquisitely furnished, comfortable, spacious hotel I have ever stayed in. The rooms are individually furnished, and it is the 'little' touches which add so much to this hotel - the teddy bear on the gigantic bed, the luxurious bedding, the soft pillows, the sweets, the fresh milk, the teapot and cups... The breakfast was just delightful.

Pocket Guide: North Yorkshire York 5 stars Hotels

Once enclosed by ancient fortified walls, York offers a wealth of cultural and historical sites, including York Castle, the National Railway Museum, and York Minster, a Gothic cathedral in the city center. The Shambles is a pedestrian-friendly street dating back to mediaeval ages, where it housed butcher shops. Today the scene is less gruesome, with quaint boutiques and tea rooms lining the road.
