From firm tourist favorites to secret places that are waiting just for you, the area around Abala is wonderfully endowed with fabulous things to see and do. Ticul, 20 miles (32 kilometers) to the northwest, and Uxmal, 20 miles (32 kilometers) to the north of Abala are also worth checking out.
Merida is 25 miles (40 kilometers) from Abala. This regional center includes a number of interesting points of interest, like Macay Museum, Casa Montes Molina Museum and Dzibilchaltun Ruins. Parque de La Mejorada, Montejo House and Animaya are some of the other attractions here that should be included on every traveler's list.
If the weather forecast makes you want to head indoors, spend some time in Yucatan's history museums, art galleries and art museums. Those with a love of history will enjoy exploring the area's fabulous old towns, archeological sites and historic mansions.
