Adequate for the basic trravellerPosted May 12, 2010
Although initially skeptical because of the relatively low price for the area, it turned out to be more than sufficient for our needs. The breaskfast (included) was more than enough. We had dinner in the hotel resurant one evening and it was a very home cooked meal with good sized portions at a relatively moderate price for the area.(Typical southern Tuscan mushroom and sausage dishes with very fresh vegtables, excellent house red wine, too) I recommend asking for a room with a view over the back vally rather than the front road. We'll probably return here within a year to explore more of the wonderful villages and naturalal spas.

Good for the MoneyPosted Aug 24, 2009
Hotel Gambrinus is a perfectly adequate hotel considering the rates. The rooms are basic and whilst it is basically clean there were some mould on the inside of the shower. The room had a fantastic view with a balcony and I would have loved to sit out there and relax. However, the chairs outside were normal dining chairs - should have been more comfortable and this would have been a fantastic plus. Breakfast was a basic italian breakfast but the cake served at breakfast was actually very nice - first time I had had this.

very hard to reach, but overll very nice, clean and feels like a worn bed in nowherePosted Oct 1, 2008
very smily service, rooms are to be expected in size, but are very clean and comfortable... the view is amazing - you have a balcony in each room and the view in the morning is Tuscany at its best...

Good deal in Tuscany for JunePosted Jul 14, 2008
The hotel was valuable for the rate we got it for. It is a little far from the Chianti region but it's close to thermal areas as well as Mount Amiata (for ski). The hotel is well managed. The staff is very friendly and helpful. A little renovation wouldn't hurt, installing an air conditioner would upgrade this hotel to be more competitive. The view from your balcony is nice, there are many bugs in this area and by not having an air conditioner, the maids are forced to open the windows (and so are you if it is very hot) thus letting bugs in. Don't let this stop you from staying there because even in 4 star hotels you'd find bugs in them if it is the season, seems to be an acceptable thing in Italy!

A pleasant stayPosted Apr 20, 2008
The hotel was clean and comfortable though a little on the cold side until the heating went on at 5pm. The staff were friendly and helpful but the breakfast could have been better. The food in the restaurant although not an extensive menu was excellent. Overall we had a comfortable and very pleasant stay, I would go there again, it was value for money.

A buggy affairPosted Jul 16, 2007
We arrived, checked in, opened our curtains to find the area between the sliding glass door and the curtains crawing with ants, etc. It might be as simple as a previous guest spilling something in the doorway or whatever, but we were asked to vacate the room so they could clean it and then we were told it was taken care of. The next morning we checked and any ants that had penetrated the door were dead - made me uncomfortable with the level of chemicals they had used. Can't recommend.
