“Not bad for the price”

It's in a dodgy part of town. If you don't mind the noise from the Hindley pubs you should be alright. But you can't beat the price!

“Still Good-Second Time Round”

I vsited by myself for a few days in December 2005 and returned this month (April) with my wife. We enjoyed the service and atmosphere of this well-maintained, rambling old hotel. The rooms were clean and serviced daily. The site was perfect for walking to the trains and buses and central city shopping. There were great restaurants and night clubs surrounnding the property. The only problem we found was that the TV was fuzzy but we were generally too tired to watch much. We will visit again when returning to Adelaide.

“Not Impressed”

Noisy location, close to police station and brothels.

“Very spartan, but cheaper”

This hotel is in a salubrious part of town. The rooms are very basic with no frills. The building is extremely old with high ceilings and a bit chilly in winter. At least the rates are cheaper.

“Not impressed”

There is too much noise outside, you can hardly sleep. The rooms are too old. However, the staff at reception are friendly.

“Bare bones”

Although generally clean, the Plaza Hotel is as no frills as it gets. My biggest issue is that it didn't seem very secure. The lock on the room seemed adequate, but when I first went to check in, I waited at the counter for about 10 minutes. I could have easily walked in and tried the door to every room, presumably w/o anyone asking. A less important complaint concerns the curtains in the room. They're like cheesecloth, so they don't block any sunlight. Don't even bother setting the alarm.

“Hotel so bad that we left”

This is the first time we ever checked out of a hotel, forfeited our money, and paid for another hotel for the night. My spouse and I are over 65 and have stayed at hundreds of hotels. The room looked like it was used for 1 night stands. It was gaudy and not maintained. The hotel is old and dilapidated. When we entered the room there was a terrible smell from a spray that masks other odors. When I flushed the toilet, the bathroom floor shook. According to the man at the desk, the elevator doesn't run between 10PM and 8AM because it makes too much noise and the bags had to be carried up and down the stairs.

Area:

Adelaide City Centre, South Australia, Australia: Surrounded by parkland almost three times the size of Manhattan’s Central Park, Adelaide is spread over 1.6 square kms (0.6 square mile) in a north-south, east-west grid of wide streets and four main squares. The main street, King William, runs from north to south through Victoria Square in the heart of the city. Some 29 parks are dotted within the central business district, and Australia’s most concentrated collection of department stores, boutiques, and specialty shops is located in Rundle Mall, home to more than 800 retailers. The city boasts in excess of 700 restaurants, cafes, and bars, with entire streets – such as Gouger and Rundle – evolving as “eat streets” of al fresco dining and international menus. Adelaide is renowned for its arts and theatre, and is the gateway to some of Australia’s most famous wine-growing regions. Free city-loop buses (“the Connector” and the solar-powered “Tindo”) visit the main tourist attractions.
