booking problems and poor servicePosted Jan 10, 2014
Pros: shuttle service to-and-fro the beach which leaves every hour.
Cons: staff training, better breakfast buffet selection
I called up the hotel prior to the arrival to verify our bookings. We booked 2 rooms, but only one reflects in their reservation list. So I asked help from expedia to clarify with Alta Vista. Then when we arrived at the hotel, still only one room was recognized under my name. I had to call up expedia to arrange everything. Check in time was supposedly 2pm, but they were only able to give us our room at past 5pm already!!! Busy season is not an excuse. If they know it's peak season, then they should increase their cleaning staff. And speak of staff, people who work there doesnt seem to have an adequate hospitality training. Cleaning staff are always hanging out by the stairs, just sitting and talking to each other. I witnessed this not just once, twice, but more than few occasions. Hotel is barely OK to stay in, just do not expect much: 1. awful breakfast buffet 2. not too nice amenities 3. spa was terrible 4. earliest shuttle is 8:40am, what if someone wants to catch an early sunrise beach spot?

Nice and QuitePosted Sep 15, 2013 on Hotels.com
It was very nice hotel and we would stay there again. It was very quiet, because it was far from all the action. We did sleep good.

great hotelPosted Aug 26, 2013
Though Alta Vista is a bit far from all the action i would choose to stay at this hotel if i had to visit again. The service and respect i received is worth it to me. the only flaw was that there was no free WiFi in the room but then again you a probably on vacation so why do you need it? if anything they do have free WiFi in the lobby. Amenities were great pool, spa, etc they even have a private beach they can take you to.They also Provide transportation to D-mall since they are a bit further and if you stay after 12am(which is when the last shuttle leaves) you can always just the bike services since they are 24 hrs(about 120 php). Now as far as in your room it is very clean and includes everything you would expect a room to include. Overall i enjoyed my stay and they can expect my business if i ever find my way to Boracay.

It more about the Beach than this hotel stay ...Posted Apr 8, 2013
Pros: At the end of the day, the room was very comfortable.
Cons: It was kinda out of the way and you had to plan out your day versus being more spontaneous. Not getting to Puka Beach, too.... next time.
Location: On top the the hill peak having a great view with a scary infinity pool location.
The Alta Vista de Boracay is a more established and larger hotel. It sits atop the southern peak of the small isle and is a good 20-25 minute van pool ride with traffic from the main drag of Da Mall. The staff is friendly but limited in their roles maybe they're just too overworked. The rooms were nice. We took the Loft Suite which had a loft with 2 queen beds and had a wonderful, seperate AC unit. The main floor was the kitchen/dinette area, bathroom and family room with a porch/lanai that had a decent view. The restaurant with their buffet style breakfast is a free for all. Get there early or it can be frustrating. The Hotel van has A/C and a regular route that is consistent. If you have an early flight, do make arrangements for an early van ride ... and. maybe, they'll prepare you a breakfast to go which is the restaurant's best favor to you. BTW, room service is courteous and attentive. Oh, upon Arrival at Caticlan Airport, try to get thru the Paperwork/Customs/Welcome queue as quickly as possible. Once outside you can try to get a couple of drivers to haggle down transportation price ( ferry ticket, port tax and van ride to any hotel). These guys all know each other and, eventually, one will cave close to your price BUT do check what the hotel does charge, if they even provide this service, at all. If you're a family, stand firm on your price. If you're backpacking, take an adventure on the trici-cab... prolly a hundred pesos or 3 US bucks.

Wonderful stay.Posted Apr 1, 2013
Pros: Room size and gorgeous views.
Cons: No wifi in room
Location: Rural and rustic but nice.
Wonderful experience. Recommend however free wifi in the rooms. It's a hassle going to the lobby to log on free. Also, the shower head holder was broken. Lastly, I paid for a loft suite but was put in a studio suite ( smaller ). I noticed next day and staff promptly moved me to a loft with accommodation to upgrade for remaining stay. Thanks to the friendly hotel staff for an enjoyable experience.

Very Nice Place!Posted Mar 24, 2013 on Hotels.com
This was our first trip to the island. We picked a great hotel to stay at. The staff picked us up at the airport and took us the hotel. The staff is very nice. I only had one issue when i asked for additional pillows. The bed only had two pillows. SO i called and asked for more. the woman at front desk said no. I guess there is a pillow shortage in Boracay (very weird). But that is the only negative i would say. The food at hotel is great. We swam at pool. It was empty most times. Take advantage of private beach. We went several times and we were the only ones in the water.

Excellent Hotel except for financial verificationPosted Mar 4, 2013
Pros: The fact that is it far from downtown, quiet, peaceful and we had "loft suites" and the excellent views.
Cons: The took forever verifying out Expedia confirmed and PAID reservations. They really should join the modern financial world.
Location: Excellent! Clean air, away from the noise of downtown and wonderful views.
Loved everything about the Alta Vista Hotel (quiet, private, clean, excellent views and away from the madness and pollution of the downtown area) except the fact that they were too bureaucratic about verifying my Expedia reservation. Come on, folks, this is 2013...get with the program--this is now the modern financial world! I've traveled in many parts of the world, and verifying an Expedia reservation should NOT be be painful--they had to check with corporate HQ (or some such place) to "verify" my reservations. It was a bit annoying considering that my account was already charged and my reservations were already PAID. One gets the impression that the hotel does not have their act together in terms of transacting business in the modern financial world. Quite annoying. Otherwise, we loved the hotel and our "loft suites" reservations.

wouldnt book againPosted Feb 16, 2013
Pros: the view.
Cons: up keep, no free room wifi, bad breakfast, very far out from white beach where you will be spending most of your time in.
Location: very far out from white beach. but if you are the staying in room type of person it might work out good for you.
if you are the kind of person or couple who would like to stay in your room and not go out much and would like to save a few quid on your accomodation this is the right place for you, i have to say this hotel is very far from the d'mall and white beach which you will be spending most of your time at. how ever you will get free transport service to and from the hotel, but my overall review after staying at 5 hotels in boracay in 2 weeks, i wouldnt personaly go back here. it has a very good view to the mountains i have to say but the up keep of the rooms were very old fashioned with early 80s wooden flooring, just to top it off you would have to pay for wifi access in your room and its quite expensive. and lastly our toilet didnt have a room but a shower curtain which was very weird and uncomfortable however the shower room had its own door... !!!!

Beautiful BoracayPosted Feb 5, 2013 on Hotels.com
Alta Vista was OK to GOOD - The staff tried hard, were exceptionally polite, helpful and friendly. On the downside, the lack of structure, order and communication left a lot to be desired - Breakfast was poor, overcrowded and on the whole, uncomfortable. The restaurant was also the breakfast room, which was empty every evening. In the evenings, there was no hotel entertainment, so going into town is a must. Amazingly there was NO iron in the room. We were told it was due to safety, which we didn't understand. Having said that, for a charge - they ironed our clothes. There is no gym, and the family playroom was almost a bear room with padded walls - The infinity pool and kids pool area is nice, clean and comes with stunning views - as does the whole complex - the views from the top of the mountain are breathtaking. Overall we liked it, though as a family with two small boys and a single granny, we wouldn't go back. Alta-Vista was a step too far up the mountain and if you didn't take the free shuttle bus - we got ripped off by the local motor-bike taxi's. Their standards are lower than the west, yet as we understand it, the hotel is owned jointly by Chinese/Philipines, so it's no surprise to see 4 star reviews which really mean 2-3 in the west (BEWARE if you are a westerner looking for 4 star, this is not it). This brings us onto the island as a whole......
