Good, not great. Food could be better.Posted Mar 28, 2015
Pros: access to beach
Location: About 1.5 hours from airport via shared shuttle (had to drop off others at their resorts); about an hour to return to airport.
Enjoyed the opportunities to kayak and sail (catamaran) with my 9 year old daughter (part of all-inclusive). She loved the beach, the kids' water park, and the various critters running around (agoutis, caotis, and igunanas). Buffets and snack bars available as part of all-inclusive were convenient and provided copious options, they just were not very good. Take advantage of the included dinners for somewhat better food and a chance to slow down during meals. Beach was swamped with seaweed upon arrival (it happens), but the beach was still pleasant; by day three, most had been cleared. Coba is set back from the beach and is generally hooter because it lacks the refreshing breeze of Tulum, which also had the better buffet . Staying at this resort is not seeing Mexico, and I suspect that is true even if you do a few excursions (we did none). If you are looking for a relaxing few days on the beach, this will do fine.

Great resort style vacation destinationPosted Mar 25, 2015
Pros: Overall, its' a great vacation destination. Highlights include the pools, the food and restaurants, and the lobby bar in the evening.
Cons: Return to open access to the beaches, or expand the size of the Tulum beach. Improve the cleaning solutions used in the rooms.
Location: Great grounds, convenient access to many natural attractions in the Mayan and to Playa del Carmen.
This was our second consecutive year going to the Coba resort. We were a family of 5 in two rooms. The hotel was very accompodating in locating our rooms close to each other even though we booked through two different tour operators. Also, the hotel updgraded us to "premium" status as we were returning guests. It offered a few nice perks such as a separate check in desk. The grounds are very pretty, and there are a variety of activites available to guests - but I must admit this time we spent more time in the hammocks than doing any sports. Be forewarned its a big property and the Coba does not have direct beach access, but there is a convenient tram service. The staff is friendly and professional, special call out to Marci in the premium lobby bar, and Andres in the main buffet. This is the second year in a row we found an odor of mildew on the pillows and the sheets, as well as a sour smell on the hard surfaces (phone, tables) which I assume is due to the high humidity and the type of cleaner being used. Also, the beach area has now been segregated by resort. Last year it was open access. This is unfortunate, as the Coba does not have direct beach access and now shares the Tulum resort beach. The Tulum beach is definitely the least attractive of the beaches on the resort, and most cramped. Crowding on the beach wasn't an issue however as there was a massive build up of seaweed all along the beach. Resort staff made a valiant effort to remove it, but could not keep up.

Huge resort, lots of gorgeous pools, service was great, had to take short shuttle ride to reach beach, food was the best we've ever had at an all inclusive, nightly specialty drinks, definitely recommend Quite a bit of sea weed at ocean :(

Great hotel near the beachPosted Mar 23, 2015
We had a great time at this hotel for the 5 days we stayed. The staff was very friendly and everyone was willing to help with anything. They accommodated the different rooms we requested in the same building. The transportation within the hotel is fantastic; you will not wait more than 5 minutes for their little train. The food was great, both buffet and a la carte. We got all the reservations for dinners that we wanted the time we stayed. I would highly recommend this hotel.

tres bel hotelPosted Mar 23, 2015

quiet hotel, beach access not greatPosted Mar 21, 2015
Pros: many restaurants, entertainment, and service once you talked to the right person
Cons: fridges restocked each day without being asked for, availability to the whole beach without to many conflicts
Location: shopping (Playa), tours (ruins), adventures (Sha Hal)
Arriving at hotel to find out not all of the resort was available to us especially the beach. Coba's access was combined with Tulums which was very congested. Meanwhile Akumals had many empty chairs and a much cleaner beach. thanks to one of the managers and our saying this is our fourth time there they gave us a wristband to let us into the Akumal for the rest of our vacation for a much more enjoyable time.

NICE VACATIONPosted Mar 14, 2015
Pros: All aspects especially the pool atmosphere and the night life!!
Cons: Maybe if the hotel was a little closer to the airport it would be nice..90 minutes.
Location: Snorkeling galore and the dolphins..
Stayed there in 2012 and thought the hotel was somewhat run down. However, I was pleasantly We stayed there the first week of March with 50 of the nicest people from Toronto..I was surprised how much improvements were made since my last stay. I'm a gym rat and the fitness center was like night and day since my last visit. Lots of new new equipment and much cleaner. The rooms were also nicer and bathroom & shower were fine. I thought the food was okay and the night life entertainment was much better. The trolley system was more organized and the service was outstanding. The beach had a few issues with seaweed but you can't blame them for the unusual currents caused by the crazy far out to seas ocean storms. Water was nice and white sand was nice. Pool atmosphere was great with the bar in the middle of the pool. Lots of fun!! I do have one bad comment to make, it was hard getting back to work because I had so much fun at the COBA!! Get your vacation booked now and have the time of your life!! We had no issues but just lots of fun.
