"Gorgeous, relaxing, fun, comfortable"
Great pool and large hot tub. Very hot in June- pool temp excellent. Breakfast buffet poolside. Make sure you walk to the 'other side' for scenery, restaurants, bars, other entertainment choices. Drawbacks- the beach/swimming area is very small and lots of rocks/coral. Don't go expecting to be swimming in the ocean unless you walk to the other side. The pool is large.

Would have rated 5 stars but I'm a smoker and all rooms are non smoking. I also asked for ocean view when I made reservations but they wanted to charge me extra when I was checking in. Over all my stay was excellent. Beautiful resort and staff was wonderful.

""Limited beach" but great pool areas"
Good: The resort area was very clean, and there were plenty of restaurant options. The pool area had plenty of activities going throughout the day - water exercise, yoga, bingo, dance lessons, ping-pong, etc. The paths around the resort were really beautiful. There were paddle boats, canoes, and surfboard-like activities included in the cost; be sure to get there early to enjoy them! We got to see some fish on our own with snorkel gear without going too far into the water. The kids got a kick out of seeing so many iguanas and coati hanging out. Not so good: I was disappointed that the beach area was quite small compared to the hotel we stayed at in Cancun. We were looking to spend more time in the ocean floating around, throwing the Frisbee on the beach, etc. There really wasn't much clean sandy area; I would recommend taking water shoes due to rocky areas. There was so much seaweed that it smelled bad. Of course, this might have been the same issue in Cancun if it was due to a storm going through earlier. Our room was really cold at night and the "2nd bed" (a couch with cushions out) was super hard. All in all, I would recommend this resort if you're ok with taking a "trolley" to different parts of the resort. The fitness room, miniature golf, other lobbies, different restaurants, etc., were a bit far to walk especially when it was super hot. Getting a shaded area ( & lounging chairs) around the pools was easy since there were so many in the resort.

"Very nice resort at a good price!"
The staff was excellent! We had a great time hanging around the pool and taking time at the beach. We were able to do some snorkeling and paddle boarding, which was also included. The buffet's were good with a wide variety of choices. We were able to take advantage of the al-a-carte restaurants, and the food was exceptional at those as well. The rooms and resort in general were beautifully maintained. We had no issues. Lots of wild animals to see roaming around the resort. We even had a monkey come within 5 feet of our 3rd floor balcony as we sat out watching the scenery. We were able to watch the hatching of 3 sea turtle nests (about 300 total) and see them released to the sea. We had a great time, and we think you would too!

"Nice hotel not the best beach"
Not a great experience while checking in. Staff make up schedules; bartenders starting and ending times always varies and differs from what it's stated on the schedule. Lady/host at one of the restaurants very bad costumer service and actitud. Excellent waitress and hosts over all food wise experience was great. My room key disabled two times. The iron didn't work and I requested one but they never delivered. Long distances and high bridges to cross from rooms to pools and eating places. I walked 10,000 steps or more everyday. Not the best beach a lot of sage over the weekend. Beautiful vegetation and wild life very clean resort.

Pocket Guide: Akumal, Riviera Maya Green/Sustainable Hotels

Snorkeling and diving are popular in the small resort town of Akumal, and at Kantenah beach to the north, where the coastline runs parallel to a protected coral reef. In the summer months, sea turtles crawl onto the white-sand beaches by moonlight to lay their eggs. Yal-Ku Lagoon, once a trading route for the ancient Maya, is a bird watcher’s paradise, and can be explored by foot or kayak.
