"Nice adult-exclusive hotel with large rooms"
We did not know that Royal Suites is one small little hotel within the large Palladium compound. We initially booked this place because we thought it would be right off the beach, but we actually needed to walk quite a bit, or take the shuttle. Finding the Royal Suites lobby in itself was difficult since there was a lack of signs of where Royal Suites is located, but we eventually found it nestled deep north of the compound. The beach here was filled with seaweed, making it difficult to get into ocean. Snorkeling here was really blah, have to go elsewhere. The rooms were large and there was even a hot tub in it. We loved the idea of a private hot tub, but ended up only using it once. The room was clean and spacious, and enjoyed it. You can go to any of the restaurants within the Palladium compound. We tried Brazilian BBQ, mediterranean food, Japanese teppanyaki, and the steak house. All the food there was pretty mediocre, our least favorite being the steak house (steaks were very tough and chewy), and our favorite being Mare Nostrum (mediterranean). You can make reservations, and we barely had any wait going in with reservations. Service is hit or miss here. We encountered some who were really awesome and accommodating, some who were just terrible, but most of them were average. Most of them really had a hard time understanding English, but with my limited Spanish, we survived. I probably wouldn't come back here, unless there's a super awesome special.

"Quiet, beautiful property w/ all amenities we need"
When we first arrived we were greeted with champagne & a personal escort with a tram to carry us & our luggage to our room. They had oversold our room type, so we were give comp. massages and tickets to the Mexican Fiesta to make up for it. This was not a big deal for us, as we would be in Chichen Itza the following day. Once we got in our penthouse suite, it was amazing & had everything we needed for our week-long stay. The buffet at our portion of the resort was great - had breakfast there every morning. My husband was obsessed with the omelets! A great selection any time of day in this buffet. We also had the pleasure of eating at 4 a la carte restaurants - one in each section of the resort. La Gran Tortuga (Tulum) had delicious meats served tableside on swords, but we weren't impressed with the buffet offerings. Great service though! Mikado (Coba) put on a great show and had delicious food with great portions, but the wait time for everything to get started was longer than expected. Dolce Vita (Akumal) was AMAZING! The food was exquisite, the service quick and attentive, and the portions were more than adequate. We highly recommend getting the Mexican Coffee show :-) Finally, our last night we went to Alux (Sian Ka'an) and were extremely impressed with the 5 courses we received, including tequila shots to end it all. The service was great everywhere! We had a lovely stay & would definitely stay with this resort again. We are hoping to make this trip yearly!

"Beautiful location, massive hotel"
All inclusive was great value, lots of people around and very big hotel. You need transport to get around or be prepared to walk lots. If you want quiet and relaxing this is not your place as it's busy everywhere

"Starting to show its age"
The staff is great as usual. The facilities are starting to get a little tired. Have stayed here before and it could use a facelift. Heard that there are plans to build a large number of new rooms. I like the fact that this resort doesn't feel big, I hope all the additional rooms don't ruin that atmosphere.

"Beautiful all inclusive resort."
Our room was beautiful, with a view of the jungle. It was close to several pools, restuarants, and shopping; all within the resort grounds. It was cleaned every morning and restocked with all of the necessities. The room and grounds were very well kept! Our experiences in the many different pools were amazing. The wait staff at each of the pool bars were extremely friendly. Most remembered our names and drinks of choice. Throughout the day, there are a variety of activities that take place in the pools, such as water volleyball, aerobics, and football. The beach itself was beautiful, with many chairs and palapas (huts) for our use. Unfortunately, our stay was right after a tropical storm, which stirred up seaweed and covered the beach. The resort staff was diligent about removing the seaweed and worked day in and day out to do so. The food was incredible! We had many options to choose from. There were several restaurants that served buffets for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The atmosphere, food presentation, and wait staff was exceptional. There are also many restuarants which require reservations. We enjoyed Makido (a Japanese steakhouse), Portofino (an Italian Ristorante), Gran Tortuga (a Brazilian steakhouse), Oasis (international cuisine), and Tequila (an authentic Mexican restaurant). The night life was also incredible. Each night, there are shows in the theater, outdoor bars with dancing and karaoke, a disco, a sports bar, and many shops. I would highly recomme

"Big resort good for family with young children"
We had a great time at Grand Palladium White Sands. We travelled with an infant and a toddler. We stayed in White Sands villa 52 which is right by the train stops to go to different lobbies. Walking to both lobbies are also not bad even with the kids. We spent most of our time at the beach close to Colonial because it's more accessible from the buffet restaurants compared to the beach close to White Sands. The beach at Colonial is not rocky. We snorkeled at the White Sands beach but did not see that many fish. We really enjoyed swimming at the Colonial, clean water and little waves even on a red flag day. Rooms: junior suites are big, clean and new, 2 doubles and 1 sofa bed, great for families. Towel art was great. We got one room on the bottom floor and one on the top floor. The bottom floor is great because of the strollers, but there were a lot of mosquito hanging out at the door so we had to get in and out quickly and still got mosquito in the room at night. Service: mini bar did not get refilled when we checked in, there were opened bottles. Called the housekeeper and got promised that it will be refilled but it never did. Got room serviced the next day, and still no refill even though we left tip. We eventually wrote a note and it was refilled when the room was serviced again. Staff: friendly and nice. Activities were fun and great because of the staff. Food: very good compared to other all inclusive we've been to.

"Wonderful resort with lovely landscaping and beach"
We had a fantastic time at the GP Kantenah and highly recommend it for a fun and relaxing family vacation. The resort was beautiful and we loved the jungle setting and the natural beauty surrounding the entire resort. The beach was really nice even though there were a few days we experienced more seaweed than normal (the resort tried really hard to clean it up). There pools were also really nice with plenty of lounge chairs to choose from. There were so many activities for all ages and our children were never bored (18 & 14 year old boys). The buffets were decent but would have been better with a bit more variety of foods. The ala carte restaurants were great except for the Italian restaurant (not recommended). I highly recommend the spa, it was totally worth the extra charge of $10 per day! Overall, we had a fantastic time and loved the resort! The staff also was really friendly and they work so hard and deserve a tip. The only time we had a bad customer service experience was with the front reception desk when I asked for directions to the salt water pool and a map. The employee was not helpful at all and told me they ran out of maps when I could see someone checking in and handed a resort map- really how can they run out! But I wouldn't hold that one experience against our overall experience. One other suggestion I have is that GP should allow all guest access to a computer with printer in order to check in for their flight and print boarding passes.

"Huge compound; lots to do. Friendly staff"
After driving an hour 1/2 in the rain to get to the hotel, we were greeted at the lobby only to be told we needed to go to the other side reception bec we booked thru Expedia 😒. Check in was a bit chaotic and disorganized. We were then told about all the extra fees to be automatically charged if we ever, even accidentally, use the wifi service, and if we do not return all the room and towel cards originally issued to us. Okay, fine. Then we were taken to our room. First impression: it'd work! Its ground floor-ideal when you have a little one. Inside its roomy and seemed clean but lots of not so obvious filth! One of them, we used the ice bucket to get some ice, the next morning when the ice melted, all kinds of dirt or sorts of sediments collected at the bottom! Gross! Drawers were dirty as well, we opted to leave our clothes in suitcases. Our unit is also next to the utility room and stairs, VERY NOISY! Beds can use some updating, sunken in the middle and hard! Fan in the bathroom never worked the entire time we were there despite repeated request for service, so we just gave up. On the positive, the units are roomy, plenty of room for my little one to move and even ran around. After a day or so the cleanliness of the room improved and towels were well supplied. Staff try their best and were all very friendly; I'd rate them 5 except the ck in reception. Pools were clean, Food & drinks were so so, surrounding area is great, lots of walking.

Pocket Guide: Akumal, Riviera Maya Spa Hotels

Snorkeling and diving are popular in the small resort town of Akumal, and at Kantenah beach to the north, where the coastline runs parallel to a protected coral reef. In the summer months, sea turtles crawl onto the white-sand beaches by moonlight to lay their eggs. Yal-Ku Lagoon, once a trading route for the ancient Maya, is a bird watcher’s paradise, and can be explored by foot or kayak.
