"What a gem!"
What a great experience! The resort is a gem with a smaller size compared to large resorts give you a nice welcoming feel. The facilities are clean, updated and very accommodating for any guest. It is close to the ruins for a day trip or stay on campus for day at the pool or beach.

"Great resort especially for small kids."
This was a wonderful resort with wonderful employees a great beach, snorkeling with great staff and kids club. We travel to a different place every year and this was one of the cleanest places I have ever seen. We loved the resort and staff the only issue were uncomfortable beds ask for extra top and the food was ok but just like any other island. Go for the upgrade to ocean so worth it building 19 was the best. Totally would return to this resort or one of the sister resorts owned by this hotel.

"Above expectations"
Immaculate, quiet premises, positioned right on the beach and perfect if you are looking for relax. Easy to be found although you may be new in the area, as there is a sign right on the main road so, you cannot miss it. We had a small rented car and found it was a good choice since you need it if you wish to occasionally move to more social life in Akumal Beach or Tulum, where you find supermarkets, good restaurants and typical touristic spots. During our stay a continuous, fairly strong wind and relevant waves has prevented us from enjoying swimming in the sea right off the hotel, as the rocky sea bottom would require good visibility to enter there. Nevertheless, a short drive to Akumal Beach brought us to well known and fairly crowded beaches where we enjoyed good snorkeling, watching turtles and sting rays. Other reviewers mentioned that walking along the beach you may reach more bars and restaurants in 15 minutes from Las Villas. We did it but found out that they do not serve outside customers, being exclusively dedicated to their own resort's guests. The restaurant in our premises was pricey but good. We however had not a good experience with the waiter who was too much after "propinas". The spacious and well equipped room was perfect, except for the A.C. whose outlet was not swinging and the cold air blow was steadily directed toward the sofa, so we had to switch off the A.C. when sitting there. Overall an excellent experience.

"Great service and fine hotel"
I was very pleased with this resort. This place is definitely not under staffed. The service was impeccable and friendly. The rooms were very nice with more than enough space to spread out. The restaurantserves were quite tasty, but a little warm as they were outdoor type with no air conditioning. The buffet food had a wide variety with a different theme every night. The beach was somewhat small in depth but was not short in length with plenty of chairs. We were always able to find chairs at the beach no matter what time of day. There were limited chairs by the pool, but with multiple pools, you could find some if you looked. The only downsideso to the resort was the main lobby bar closed at 11th and the didn't serve cocktails in the buffet. I would recommend this place to anyone.

"Perfect location next to Akumal Bay"
My husband & I just returned from our fourth trip to Akumal, Mexico. Hotel Akumal Caribe was just what we hoped for, with an unpretentious and casual atmosphere. The location on the bay is the most desirable for snorkelers, and the beachfront is easily accessed by the hotel & the bungalows. Our bungalow was a bit shabby, but fine overall. The hotel is a bit newer. Thatched palapas surrounded by palm trees provide shade for plenty of beach chairs. The pool is clean, with a sheltered area with tables and seating. Hotel Akumal Caribe staff are constantly on hand grooming the grounds, providing security, & assisting guests. A continental breakfast of orange juice, coffee, fruit plate, & toast or muffin is provided at no charge. You can book a room with a mini kitchen: a refrigerator, coffee maker, air conditioning, & safe are in each room. Restaurants& grocery stores are a short walk away. Be aware: this isn't the place for people looking for high-end lodging, but it was perfect for our modest needs. Unfortunately, Akumal Bay is now a destination for scores of packaged land and cruise ship excursions: we counted as many as 14 different snorkeling groups in the bay at one time, and new groups arrive as soon as the previous groups depart. We learned to avoid snorkeling between 8:00AM and 5:00PM in order to evade the crowds of novice snorkelers literally running into us or spooking the turtles and fish. Still overall, we loved our stay at Hotel Akumal Caribe. We'll be back!

Beautiful property with soft white sand, stingrays, and a few species of fish visible from the shallow water. Lovely boardwalks through mangrove forests connect pools to the beach and rooms. The rooms are comfortable but don't spend much time there!

"Beautiful resort and not one problem!"
I'm going to tell about my experience and also address some of the negative things said about this resort: First, check in was a breeze. Took about 5 minutes and had our room. This is a record time for a Mexico check-in. Room was very nice, clean, and cool. We had a very hot week and the room stayed as cool as we wanted it. Staff was fantastic and very nice. Barbara from the entertainment staff was a lot of fun and cycled with my wife and I in the pool every day. She was GREAT! I saw earlier feedback about the following issues so I kept an eye out to report on. Here it is: Beach was a long way away: If you sit in front of the TV and haven't walked in 5 years, then yeah, it's a little bit of a walk. I could get to the beach walking medium speed in about 10 minutes. The adult pool was 1 minute (but it's small and everyone smoked so we didn't every go here). The main pool was 5 minute walk. Nothing crazy and they did have the trains running which were always going by. Lots of Seaweed on the beach: True, they were out removing it every morning. They did a good job. The beach was beautiful and there were two very sandy areas to walk in the ocean (way out) and clean. Water was warm. It's the ocean, can't blame the resort for that. Watered down drinks: We tried Bailey's and Capt. Morgan and it was full octane! Hard to water down beer too. TV channels not in English: Only American arrogance would believe TV should be in English every country you visit.

"Great Resort with an great beach and pools"
This resort was beautiful! Very spacious, I don't think we made it to every place We spent 7 days and we didn't want to leave. The salt water pool has an amazing view and we spent a very relaxing day there. The adult only pool was by far my favorite. All the staff was extremely helpful and pleasant. The only suggestion I have is the reservation only restaurants is go early and realize when you walk in the door you have two restaurants to pick from, our first night we thought we were going to Brazilian place and ended up at Ribs and more! So make sure you confirm you are at the right hostess. Make sure you to go to the spa one day

"A bit of a slow start that was quickly overcome..."
Arrived on a Sat afternoon. Was able to check in right away & room was ready. Unfortunately, room had 2 double beds & I had reserved a king bed. Initial calls to front desk had no effect (was told they were full & had no flexibility). However, a 3rd call where I asked for the manager generated a call back about 10 minutes later where a new room was found & we could move right away. New room was great! In Riviera building 60 with close proximity to pool & beach. The resort is huge & we encountered many different service people over 5 days, who were all professional & usually friendly. We did not encounter a single negative attitude from anyone we dealt with! Because resort is huge, there is a lot of walking between room & restaurants, pools, beach, spa & lobby. The landscaping is beautiful all around & my wife & I enjoyed the walks, which helped us burn off a few calories from the excellent meals & drinks we consumed. If you have issues walking or think you want to rely on the shuttle, I would probably re-think Riviera Maya. We took shuttles for dinners at other parts of resort, but it seemed like wait times between shuttles was pretty high. Wear comfortable shoes. As my wife said, leave your high heels at home & you will be fine. We used the gym a few times & it was excellent. It is in the Spa, which is absolutely gorgeous! At pools & beach, we had no trouble finding chairs & getting towels.

In the Mayan language, “Akumal” translates to mean the “place of the turtles.”

This coastal destination is known for enticing snorkel and scuba areas where you can swim alongside Green and Loggerhead sea turtles. In fact, the town was originally founded as a scuba diver community in 1958, and it has since transformed into a tourist area. Tucked between the cities of Playa del Carmen and Tulum, Akumal invites visitors to bask on the shore or take to the waters. Relax under a swaying palm tree on Half Moon Bay, kayak around Akumal Bay, or mosey over to Kantenah Beach for some more seclusion.
