We did not know that Royal Suites is one small little hotel within the large Palladium compound. We initially booked this place because we thought it would be right off the beach, but we actually needed to walk quite a bit, or take the shuttle. Finding the Royal Suites lobby in itself was difficult since there was a lack of signs of where Royal Suites is located, but we eventually found it nestled deep north of the compound.
The beach here was filled with seaweed, making it difficult to get into ocean. Snorkeling here was really blah, have to go elsewhere.
The rooms were large and there was even a hot tub in it. We loved the idea of a private hot tub, but ended up only using it once. The room was clean and spacious, and enjoyed it.
You can go to any of the restaurants within the Palladium compound. We tried Brazilian BBQ, mediterranean food, Japanese teppanyaki, and the steak house. All the food there was pretty mediocre, our least favorite being the steak house (steaks were very tough and chewy), and our favorite being Mare Nostrum (mediterranean). You can make reservations, and we barely had any wait going in with reservations.
Service is hit or miss here. We encountered some who were really awesome and accommodating, some who were just terrible, but most of them were average. Most of them really had a hard time understanding English, but with my limited Spanish, we survived.
I probably wouldn't come back here, unless there's a super awesome special.

"Wonderful resort with lovely landscaping and beach"
We had a fantastic time at the GP Kantenah and highly recommend it for a fun and relaxing family vacation. The resort was beautiful and we loved the jungle setting and the natural beauty surrounding the entire resort. The beach was really nice even though there were a few days we experienced more seaweed than normal (the resort tried really hard to clean it up). There pools were also really nice with plenty of lounge chairs to choose from. There were so many activities for all ages and our children were never bored (18 & 14 year old boys). The buffets were decent but would have been better with a bit more variety of foods. The ala carte restaurants were great except for the Italian restaurant (not recommended). I highly recommend the spa, it was totally worth the extra charge of $10 per day! Overall, we had a fantastic time and loved the resort! The staff also was really friendly and they work so hard and deserve a tip. The only time we had a bad customer service experience was with the front reception desk when I asked for directions to the salt water pool and a map. The employee was not helpful at all and told me they ran out of maps when I could see someone checking in and handed a resort map- really how can they run out! But I wouldn't hold that one experience against our overall experience. One other suggestion I have is that GP should allow all guest access to a computer with printer in order to check in for their flight and print boarding passes.

When we arrived at the hotel later than we expected our room wast ready so we had to wait about an hour, which we spent at the buffet. When we got our room they had uprgraded us from a junior suite to a penthouse for our entire stay without extra cost! This was me and my wife's honeymoon and we were very pleased with the service of the staff and the cleanliness/peacefulness of the resort. Snorkeling was incredible and the different restaurants made you feel very high class, the Japanese was particularly excellent. Would recommend this resort to anyone!

Las Villlas Akumal was terrific. My family and I stayed there for a week and we had a wonderful time. The pool was terrific for our children, the beach was literally 20 steps away, the staff was helpful and friendly, happy hour was a treat, and the grounds were beautiful. The daily continental breakfast got old after a while, but you could always order off of the menu if you wanted to pay for extra, like eggs. One thing we loved most about Las Villas Akumal was the location. If you are not looking to be surrounded by crowds and a party atomosphere, it is the place to be. It is a 15-20 minute walk along the beach to the town of Akumal, which has its share of tourists and resorts. You can take a short walk to the madness and then return to your secluded villa for peace, quiet, and relaxation. It has a small family feel instead of a large all-inclusive resort vibe. I highly recommend Las Villas Akumal.

The staff is great as usual. The facilities are starting to get a little tired.
Have stayed here before and it could use a facelift. Heard that there are plans to build a large
number of new rooms. I like the fact that this resort doesn't feel big, I hope all the additional rooms
don't ruin that atmosphere.

Great pool and large hot tub. Very hot in June- pool temp excellent. Breakfast buffet poolside. Make sure you walk to the 'other side' for scenery, restaurants, bars, other entertainment choices.
Drawbacks- the beach/swimming area is very small and lots of rocks/coral. Don't go expecting to be swimming in the ocean unless you walk to the other side. The pool is large.

The property had exactly what I wanted...proximity to beautiful Akumal Bay. We ended up in a 1 BR condo with a balcony on the bay. Fantastic view.
We originally booked a pool view room, but requested the upgrade upon arrival. Noel(sp?) was very welcoming and after some cajoling he was able to find us a Sea View room for the night.

Snorkeling and diving are popular in the small resort town of Akumal, and at Kantenah beach to the north, where the coastline runs parallel to a protected coral reef. In the summer months, sea turtles crawl onto the white-sand beaches by moonlight to lay their eggs. Yal-Ku Lagoon, once a trading route for the ancient Maya, is a bird watcher’s paradise, and can be explored by foot or kayak.
