Will recommend with confidence to others.Posted Oct 1, 2014
Pros: Most everything was excellent.
Cons: Carpeting in Room 109 could use an update! We didn't know that our room was an animal allowed room.
All went well and our group thoroughly enjoyed the stay.

Lovely grounds and great locationPosted Jul 29, 2014
Cons: Wifi connections were shaky at best, and when I could connect, internet was slow.
Stayed four nights with my parents. Our room had two queen beds, but easily had enough space for a third. Our room (and all the others) had a balcony with a view of the Crooked River. There was a nature trail on the grounds, which made for a relaxing (and surprisingly bug-free) stroll in the evening. The resort had a number of pleasant surprises - fresh popped popcorn in the lobby in the evening, waffle maker at the complimentary breakfast bar, kayaks that could be borrowed by guests, and an open, airy lobby.

Great for familiesPosted Aug 22, 2013
Pros: Nice large pool, use of kayak and paddle boat, kind staff.
Cons: Rooms are large- could use some more furniture.
Location: Petoskey and Harbor Springs are both about 10 minutes away.
Well run, family-style atmosphere. The manager was especially warm and inviting to me and my family. Facilites are nice- nice pool, complimentary use of paddle boats and kayaks. Would recommend to others and will return. Location is 10 minutes from downtown Petoskey and Harbor Springs.

THE Best Staff I've ever encountered!!!Posted Aug 6, 2012
Pros: Courteousness of staff.
Cons: None. I thought about it, couldn't come up with anything. Asked my daughter and neither could she...If we had to try that hard, it can't be too bad.
Location: Far enough away, but close enough. Close to Petoskey and a short drive to Mackinac, too.
Hotel was clean and staff were THE nicest I have ever dealt with. Every one stopped to say Hi and ask how you were. Anything that was asked for was received with a courteous "yes" response. I know in the customer service field that sounds like it SHOULD be that way all the time, but it seems like it rarely is. The breakfast was solid and the free kayaks/paddleboats and the bonfire at night sealed the deal.

GREAT PLACE TO EXPERIENCE "UP NORTH" A++++++++Posted Jul 30, 2012
Pros: The 'UP NORTH" feel...the amennities and the very friendly and helpful staff
Cons: I am a VERY hard person to please and I have nothing but positive things to say about Crooked River Lodge....My BEST lodging experience ever!!!
Location: Located in Alanson MI..a very nice, well maintained town. 8 miles north of Petoskey and only 20 minuite ride to Mackinaw City and Mackinaw Bridge
My wife and I spent the night at Crooked River Lodge for an over night getaway without the kids. We were plesantly surprised by what a beautiful resort it was. There were tons of activities to do...all included. Indoor pool, indoor hot tub, pool table, kayaks, paddle boats, fish pond, hiking trails, nightly bon-fires....all located on the beautiful and quite peaceful Crooked River. I have traveled all over the world and I found that the staff at Crooked River Lodge were more friendly and helpful than any other place that I have EVER stayed at. Our room was large and extremly clean, and the continental breakfast was great. The Lodge is located in the quaint little town of Alanson. Petoskey is only 8 miles away and Mackinaw City is only a 20 minuite ride away. I can't wait to return with the whole family. The resort has many activities to entertain my little ones. This was the first time I have stayed at a hotel and really got the "UP NORTH" feel. My wife and I were truly impressed and can't wait to return and are excited to check out other Stafford properties.

Outdoor Get-Away with all the LuxuriesPosted Jul 6, 2012
Pros: We loved the views from the balcony, the patio with the nightly bonfire, and the nature trail.
Cons: Poor sound-proofing in the rooms was inconvenient and the beds were a little firm for our liking.
Location: Nestled along the Crooked River just 10 miles north of Petoskey. Perfect location for a queit get-away with all the benefits of town close at hand.
Stafford's Hospitality has done a great job of beginning to transform this former Best Western into a resort-type property with the high standards for which Staffords is known. It is a great place for a retreat and to get a taste of the outdoors along part of Northern Michigan's Inland Waterway. The attentive and friendly staff, great views of the river from every balcony, and the complimentary kayak and paddleboats for exploring the river all make this a wonderful stay at a very reasonable price. The one drawback we encountered were walls which were not well sound-proofed. We could hear nearly every door slam, etc. Young children apparently jumping off the beds in the room above us was highly disruptive our first night there. Unfortunately, having taken over an existing property, there is little that the current management can do about the sound issue. In spite of this, we will definitely return to Crooked River Lodge in the near future. It is a great place for a quiet, luxury/wilderness get-away.
