Hotel near my doctor's appointment

Posted Jul 2, 2015
Pros: I liked the setup with access to the courtyard.
Cons: The air conditioner needed to be tuned up.
Location: Rio Rancho, NM, easy to find, easy to get into and get out. Didn't have time to try breakfast so I don't know how that was.
The experience was good but could have been great if the air conditioner worked better because it was hard to sleep with the room at about 75 degrees.

Good staff

Posted Jun 30, 2015
Pros: The large treed courtyard, which is unique, cool and very pleasant.
Cons: The business center is not effective as it has obsolete software and internet connection.
Location: It is in the center of Rio Rancho but RR is very spread out so requires a hike or car. A very good restaurant in walking distance, the Village Inn.
The staff is helpful and informed. Easy check in and check out. The desk checked my plane reservations for me. No dining room at this time.

Disappointing but ok

Posted Jun 30, 2015
Pros: The attempt to keep it updated.
Cons: To have supplies when customers ask for them.
Location: I was visiting my brother who lives near the hotel so he planned our days for us.
The hotel room was old but it was clean. There was no blanket on the bed and there were only 2 towels. When we approached the front desk the next morning, the poor guy was embarrassed and stated he had no extra blankets or towels and to check back that night. We checked back that night and they did have an extra blanket and towels. After we used the extra towels, they were never replaced.

Rio Rancho Chile Tournament

Posted Jun 22, 2015
Pros: The room was spacious and clean. Nice court yard.
Cons: The front desk's welcoming.
Location: The reason we were there was to attend a tournament at Cleveland High School.
The hotel was not bad to stay at. It was clean and spacious. Nice courtyard area to hangout outside while kids play or swam in pool. However the front desk check-in was not a good experience. Waited 15 minutes for someone to check me in. Plus was not courteous when he did arrive. However, this place was a nice place to stay for the price.

Nice lobby, courtyard, and breakfast

Posted Jun 17, 2015
Pros: antiques in lobby
Cons: weed the courtyard/walkway
Location: close to every store and restaurant chain you can name. 8 miles from Santa Ana Casino.
Lumpy beds and lumpier pillows. Maid never figured out our coffee preferences nor removed unused utensil packages. We didnt want to discard as they were sealed but after 5 days, they overflowed the tray.

Location excellent for access to the Intel FAB

Posted Jun 12, 2015
Pros: Abundant services nearby, e.g. NM MVB, Genesis skilled nursing home, easy access to adjacent Corales. Many restaurant choices.
Cons: How about a complete renovation and update?
Location: Plenty of shopping malls nearby. Couldn't be better if you have business at the huge Intel FAB across the street. Balloon Festival park nearby.
The facility is showing its age. Exterior awning supports have rotten facades in places. Courtyard pleasant enough, but can be noisy when volleyball games in progress. Dining room (formerly bar) floor both soiled and badly in need of repair. Extensive spalling on exterior walks rather haphazardly repaired. Rooms comfortable, although furnishings pretty dated. Lobby rather pretentious. If you're looking for a throwback to a '60s era this facility could fit the bill.

Decent accomodations on a budget.

Posted Jun 8, 2015
Pros: Free breakfast with many choices. Pool and fitness center. Some rooms have been renovated. Price was the major factor in choosing this motel.
Cons: Need to finish renovating other rooms. Keep the cantina grill and snack bar opened regularly. Be upfront & honest about the smoke smell in some rooms
Location: North west area by Intel campus. Easy commute on Coors to anywhere on the west side. Cottonwood shopping area and restaurants all nearby.
I've stayed here a couple of times, as I travel into the ABQ area for work regularly. This property used to be called the Rio Rancho Inn and Conference Center. It's a dated property from the 1970s or earlier, but Howard Johnson has attempted to reclaim and update it. The first stay was in an older room and you could still smell the smoke from 20 years or more in the walls, even though it's an entirely non-smoking property. The bed was low to the ground, the tv was situated akwardly, and there was no closet per-se, just a rod to hang your clothes bolted to the wall near the bathroom. I decided I would not stay here again, but the rates were too hard to pass up during another trip, so I gave them one more try. My second stay was better, as the room they put me in was updated: bed was up off the ground a normal height, the closet was enclosed, the towels were nicer, and this room had a sofa area with a partition. The A/C unit also had a self regulating thermostat so it would turn on and off at regular intervals (which I like), whereas the first room ran constantly and was loud. Based on my second stay, I would stay here again - especially for the money. The property has potential. It looks as if Howard Johnson is fixing a few of the problem areas. It's got a nice courtyard with a typical motel pool. The fitness center was supposedly being renovated while I was there. The rooms all have exterior doors, but they face inward toward the courtyard surrounded by a gate.
