“An enjoyable and even unforgettable hotel stay”

The ambiance of the hotel is absolutely magical and it transports you to an era of grandeur. The elevator captures your imagination and the room that we stayed in was clean, spacious and magnificently decorated. I was concerned that the proximity of the hotel to the Corniche (the sea-side avenue) would lead to noise problems but the insulation is excellent. The location is central making a lot of famous monuments and sights reachable even by walking.

Excellent accommodations for reasonable price. Food was very good and reasonable as well. Very satisfied with the experience. Definitely would return.

“Historic Hotel with Great Views”

This is a very old hotel with amazing features. You are not going to get all the modern upgrades of other hotels, but it has a lot of charm and the location is right in the center of the city. Get a sea-view room for amazing views of the Mediterranean Sea.

“Comfy and well located”

The Sofitel is well situated and rooms have a good water view. Rooms are very large with nice high ceilings and the entire hotel has a classy old world elegance. It is relatively near the train station and other sites. The hotel staff were very helpful in arranging transportation and answering questions. The breakfast buffet (included) provided a great start to the day. The rooftop Chinese restaurant was convenient with adequate meals, but the location overlooking the water and street was fun.

“Old, wrinkled and lovely - the Queen Mother of Hotels”

Lovely high ceilings, faded lush drapery, oriental stair carpets, ruby and gold glass chandeliers. Real old-fashioned grace, if a bit worn at the edges. Superb breakfast buffet in dining room overlooking great blue sweep of bay. Historic - British headquarters in WWI. Literary - Lawrence Durrell wrote about it, Room facing Corniche very noisy at night but perhaps worth putting up with it for the marvellous view out to sea. Personal note of welcome from manager, complimentary fruit and sweets delivered to room. Criticism: telelphione calls and internet connection v. expensive. Reception not efficient on check-out. We had paid for a week in advance, but the receptionist informed we had only paid for one night. She was quite rudely contradictory and did not apologise when it was her mistake. Then a male receptionist added a zero when we were paying for our phone calls and internet, and it took some time to put the refund through. He also hung on to the credit card of the next guest till the guy had to ask for it back. Hotel has amazing atmosphere, but watch out for inefficiencies at reception.

Historic hotel with a wonderful sea side location. The hotel was safe and has a great breakfast buffet. The staff were helpful. The room was large and adquately furnished.

“Very good!”

This hotel is definitely worth a visit - it's charming & has an interesting history. The location is great, right on the waterfront & very central. Rooms were very comfortable & clean; the reception staff were good & organised train tickets for us to Cairo at face value (we just paid for the cost of the taxi trip for the porter to collect them & a tip for the porter). We didn't eat in the hotel, but enjoyed a beer in Monty's Bar. For breakfast, try the Brazillian Coffee House (5 mins around the corner) for real coffee & a croissant.

“OK in May”

An older hotel, but in excellent condition. It was filled mainly with tourists, but is convenient to businesses located along the Corniche. Staff was friendly and efficient. The old elevator is priceless.

“Fantastic hotel but watch out for Reception”

This is a good hotel with plenty of character and a wonderful Chinese restaurant on the roof. The lift is fantastic. All the staff were excellent apart from reception. Here I was kept waiting for ages as they could not locate my booking details. It took me just over 30 minutes to check in. the staff were completely unhelpful and unsympathetic. Apart from my first half an hour at reception - a wonderful experience.

“Great location, great service.”

Staff were very friendly at this hotel. And you can't beat the location. It's convenient to everything. I had a corner room overlooking the cornish and the city. It was spectacular at sunset. Only downside is that the rooms and hallways appear to not have been updated in awhile. But if you look at it as staying in a historic hotel, you'll be fine.
