“Wow What a brilliant hotel”

Everything in this hotel is good. The staff cant do enough for you. It is very clean comfortable and welcoming.Although the food is a bit pricey, it is very good quality. The swimming pool and golf facilities are extremely good. We will definetly go again.

Lovely traditional hotel a short drive from the beach, a car is handy to have although the hotel runs a courtesy bus to and from Alvor during the day. The grounds are beautiful and the large swimming pool divine. The rooms have been upgraded and now have a contemporary feel and sparkley clean. The beds are very comfortable with lovely pillows no lumpiness there! Breakfast is fab with a huge choice of freshly cooked food, pastries, porridge, pancakes, cold meats and cheeses. There are several lounge areas and 'entertainment' in the the evenings. Choice of restaurants always of a good standard. I visited Penina 20 years ago and have returned 10 times since and if it wasnt good I wouldnt go back (and I dont even play golf!), so yes, I would recommend this to you and my friends!

“High standards”

Despite rain, we enjoyed our time at Le Meridien Penina. The Championship course was maintained to perfection. The hotel had the feeling of an old established golf club, although, as we were travelling outside of school holidays, the lack of youngsters may have made a difference. Food in all three restaurants was good - not cheap, but good.

“Great Golf”

I stayed at this hotel for the golf facilities which were superb if not slightly expensive. The hotel in general was fine, the rooms are in definite need of a facelift and new beds.

“Rooms was too small etc etc”

Having gone to Portugal several times we have always wanted to stay at the Penina. We decided to book and were excited as the place looks lush and the rooms look good (from the photos on their website). We arrived and were given a room on the 4th floor, (we were told we even had a pool view)! Room was very thin, hardly any room to get round the double bed. I didn't even have a bedside table, had to put my morning cup of tea on the floor!!! 5 stars - I dont think so!!! Only enough UHT milk in room for 1 cup of tea each, had to buy more milk if we wanted more!!! The mini-bar had someone else's old water bottle in it. Spoke to Manager and said I wasn't happy with the room and the old water bottle in the mini-bar. He did apolgise but could not improve the room as they were fully booked. Note, do not get a room on the 4th floor (top) as these are all smaller than the rooms on the lower floors. Evening food was excellent. Pool bar expensive, Three Euros fifty for a can of coke !!!!! Nice but very expensive.

“Way to operpriced for what it is”

The room was fine for a 3 star hotel, but not close to reflecting its price category. The pool area was really good though.

Without its famous golf course this hotel would be empty. It is in drastic need of re-investment. We refused to stay in the first room offered and demanded better.Its expensive even by 5 star standards but its more like a 3 star. Staff were good and food good but thats all.Couldn't even get on the golf course as it was all pre-booked to societies. This hotel is living on its past reputation.
