Spectacular scenery in a luxury resort

Posted Apr 13, 2014
Pros: Scenery, facilities, gardens, beach
Cons: Breakfast buffet and room service
This is a true 5 star resort set in a panoramic setting on pine covered cliffs over looking a fabulous natural beach. It has a glass elevator that takes you down from the resort to Falesia beach. There is a 5 min beautiful nature trail to walk before arriving on the beach. The beach goes for miles and has wild flowers and grasses growing on the ochra coloured cliff face. All staff I spoke with had a friendly manner and always tried their best. The reception staff were always helpful but were not always up to date on opening times of facilities. There was a wide choice at breakfast however I know three 4 star hotels that serve a better quality buffets than here. I also think that the refrigeration of the meats and dairy produce could be improved. The cooked breakfast should be better in a 5 star. There is a good selection of restaurants to choose from but we found the room service chaotic and poor value for money given its quality. There are very good quality inexpensive local restaurants facing the entrance of the resort. Adega TiCosta was full of locals and we loved the traditional food. The architecture of the hotel and design of the various gardens is stunning. The room was spacious quiet and well appointed with quality bedding. The childrens' facilities are excellent with a fantastic playground and activity program. A peaceful and spacious setting with plenty of activities for young and old alike. We plan to book another stay here. Highly recommended!

Beautiful hotel, beautiful surroundings

Posted Jan 9, 2014
Pros: the restaurants and the peaceful location
Cons: nothing
Location: It's only a cab ride away from Vilamoura if you do want to explore, but as it's set in it's own vast grounds, you feel like your in a different world.
We love this hotel and return year after year for our annual weekend getaway without the kids. The hotel is beautiful and the staff are so professional but friendly and we feel relaxed as soon as we walk through the doors. Even the basic room is special, with gorgeous toiletries. However, we go at a quieter time of year and so ask for an upgrade at check in, and so far, have always received one. Tip - Join the free Starwood preferred guest programme for extra benefits, discount off meals, better chance of upgrades etc. I would say that the hotel is low rise and so it spreads over a large area and the restaurants are on all corners of the resort. The pathways are cobbles and can be uneven and on different levels. It maybe a little bit difficult to get around for the infirm. It is popular with families and people do manage with buggies though. (I hasten to add - "children noise" has never been a problem.) The restaurants are fabulous - something for everyone - and the sunset at the Champagne Bar, is definitely not to be missed! The hotel also has it's own beach with sunbeds, with another great beach bar/restaurant. The sea is very choppy though but the beach is great for a stroll along. There is a lift that takes you some of the way down but there is decking and steps for a fair way to get to the actual beach. Not easy if you're not fully fit but great exercise if you are!. The hotel hosts conferences and weddings but your relaxation is never disturbed.

Pure Luxury.

Posted Oct 26, 2013
Pros: Everything.
Cons: Towel Kiosk to stay open a bit later than 6.00pm.
Location: You can walk to Villa Moira, but it is a long way.
We arrived a few hours before checkin but this was not problem, we were able to go up to our room. The friendliness of the staff was amazing. The first night we did not know how to get to the Piri Piri Steak house so one of the staff offered to take us there. The Restaurant was fantastic, we ended up going twice and the waitress really knew her wines and the food. For breakfast we were greeted down in the Buffet area, again so friendly. The next morning when we went down for breakfast, still the same friendly greeting but she remembered our coffee order from the previous morning. The whole resort was lovely and quiet, just an amazing place to enjoy our 25th Wedding Anniversary. When we went to check out, we were meant to check out at 12.00 but they let us stay until 4.00pm as our flight was later. Very professional but not overdone. The food in all the restuarants were superb. From this location we were able to walk into VillaMoira and enjoyed also the beach just down from the hotel. the only slight downside was the towel kiosk where you go to get your towels closes at 6.00pm and there were a couple of times we would have liked a swim in the outside pool outside this time.

Great hotel with just a couple of failings

Posted Oct 23, 2013
Pros: Sun beds, spaciousness inside and outside, friendly staff (especially Louisa in the cabaret and breakfast area who is a huge PR star for the hotel).
Cons: Shuttle service, food and drink pricing. The tendency to shut beach facilities to accommodate weddings and corporates at the expense of residents
Location: Somewhat isolated from towns but this enhances the peacefulness. Only cafes nearby and these are good with a 10 min walk. Otherwise need hire car.
Everything expected of a 5 star hotel. That they don't run a shuttle bus to the Airport, Albufeira and Vilamoura is the only shortcoming which would greatly complete the picture. Taxis are ludicrously expensive, especially the company contracted to do this service. 20€ into town is scandalous for 10 min trip. Local restaurants are excellent unless you want to pay 5 star prices every day. Coffee to go is the best bar service available as again drinks are vastly overpriced. Other than these small but important points there is nothing but praise. Could the management not address these issues and make Sheraton Algarve the best in the area instead of about 30th in the rankings ? they would deserve top 5 if they did.

very nice place to relax and disconnect

Posted Oct 16, 2013
Pros: staff quality, bedroom size, the resort itself
Cons: longer stay!
Location: a lot to do around, beach, pool, ... if out of big season, less activities in the centre it self (like surf) but also visiting villages, boat trips..
It has been a great stay at the Sheraton. The place is good, very good staff, great facilities. The staff pay a lot of attention to detail and are really good advice for activities in the area. Room was really spacious and queen size bed with an ocean view. There are restaurant in the resort but out of season they are not all open. There are good and cheaper restaurant close by (walking distance). There are spa facilities, tennis, gold, fitness if you want. Pools are free. And the beach is walking distance to the hotel.

Amazing Weekend Break!

Posted Oct 13, 2013
Stayed for a long weekend, was a lovely resort and had a really enjoyable stay. The hotel had its own sunloungers on the beach which was good. Restaurants on site were really good too.
