The property was in the perfect location. Very central within a few minutes walk to the central square, restaurants, bars, theatre, shops. Bus stop right outside with the service covering up & down the coast. It was clean & the bed was very comfortable. Toiletries were provided as were tea and coffee facilities. The host was lovely.

Host excellent and location perfect. Bedding very clean and comfortable bed. Thin wall between the next room. Caffeine free tea & coffee and sweeteners instead of sugar wouldn't go amiss. Shower cubicle a bit dated but on the whole quite a nice room.

The bed was comfortable, and because we were away from the road, there was little traffic noise. However the walls are very thin, and sound could be heard through them. The bathroom is tiny, and the taps swivel which is a bit annoying. The host was very friendly and welcoming.

Lovely spacious room... Warm and welcoming owner
The stay was amazing (we stayed 2 nights)... The room was very spacious, and was well equipped from all aspects. The bathroom was a little packed, but it was manageable (avoid if you plan on spending hours inside the bathroom :D). Jo was very warm and welcoming... We reached very early, and she already had the room ready, so we could check in without waiting.

Deciding factor for me when booking somewhere is reviews and I cannot see why this establishment has such high scores. Plus factor was location. Within walking distance of everything in the town. Negatives - It was doubtful on booking if breakfast was provided so I asked for confirmation. Did not get a reply one way or the other so disappointed on arrival to find there was no breakfast (due to Covid). Resolved in that there were breakfast places nearby and at least we did not have to rush in the morning. Yes, there was parking for two vehicles outside the property but not for an estate car with tow bar because it hung over the pavement and therefore an obstruction. (Owner did point us in the direction of free parking nearby) The bedroom was snug on space, which we could have coped with had the bed not been short on length and therefore not comfortable for my 6ft 2" partner so he did not sleep well. Ensuite also cramped but good supply of toiletries. The room could have been better cleaned, especially in view of Covid. I moved the tissue box which had been cleaned round rather than under and the same could be said of the runners on the bedside tables. In conclusion was adequate at the time but would not recommend.

Being so close to the centre of Alnwick was very handy. We never actually saw the property owners, which seemed strange. Parking outside was very tight. The room was cold as heating was off. (it was early January)!! There were no extra blankets, nor a heater and no-one to speak to about this. The shower water was tepid. The bed was very uncomfortable and neither myself or my 10 year old daughter slept. I was woken at 12.40am by the people in the next room due to the walls being so thin. I have never left a bad review before but in this circumstance felt i needed to be 100% honest. I would like to suggest to the owners that they review exactly what it is they are offering. We feel very disappointed and to be quite frank, ripped off by our experience.

Beautiful room and really comfortable, toiletries provided which was a nice touch. Jo the owner is an absolute star, I messed up my booking (booked the wrong date) but a phone call later and all sorted. I also needed an iPhone charger and mentioned this to Jo, a few minutes later she appeared with one. The sockets also have usb, as did the alarm clock! Unfortunately my booking didn’t include breakfast so I can’t comment on that. Would definitely recommend.

nice stay but a lot of noise from downstairs
A really posh boutique room with plenty of coffee available for free I’m usually a person that stays in hostels as don’t mind sharing facilities but the local hostel was closed in Berwick during the week as I’m studying a mental health counselling top up course to keep my skills fresh. Jo the accommodation owner was nice and was in touch with directions and was pleasant and accommodating. My only negative point is a rather loud dog 🐶 and I’m scared of such creatures in a locked room downstairs and a lot of noise from the downstairs rooms of the accommodation. Nice room big bed and a big television in the room and good Wi-fi so I could log on to do my homework for my course in Berwick the next day an hours bus ride away

Just the job.
A very warm welcome from our host Jo and an excellent breakfast. This guest house is a stone's throw from the centre of town - most conveniently situated. We will stay again when we revisit Alnwick. Excellent value.

Jo and her husband made me feel very welcome and, in addition, I was able to check in half an hour early which was much appreciated. Jo recommended the nearby Barter Books cafe which I found very helpful. My room was at the rear of the building and was very quiet. Although small, the room was very clean, comfortable and functional. Breakfast was served in a beautifully decorated dining-room. Castle Gate is situated near the town centre and the Alnwick Garden. I would happily stay here again as I think Castle Gate gives good value for money.

We are two friends travelling around the area and had to get accomodation quite spontaneously. We were very lucky to find Castle Gate Guest House! Jo gave us a very warm welcome, our room was really nicely and lovingly furnished and equipped, though rather small. I think the other two rooms are bigger. But it was friendly and quiet and we had a good rest there. The breakfast-room is charming and breakfast was just according to our wishes and we enjoyed it very much. Last but not least the guesthouse is very well situated close to the city center, to the market place, to Alnwick Gardens and to Barter Bookshop and there is also a very nice pub just opposite.

A lovely B&B. Jo is so welcoming and the whole atmosphere was so cosy. Huge bedroom with double and single beds. Large TV, kettle etc. Plenty of storage and beautifully furnished. Excellent breakfast. No self service: Jo served it all personally with friendly chit chat.

The hotel description included guest parking, this is not correct. There is parking for 2 small cars in front of the B&B although the kurb is not dropped. There is not parking availble for all guests. When we arrived the parking was full and we had to park in a public car park. The hotel is in a good location near Alnwick Castle. We had a tiny room with very little space other than the bed and a tiny bathroom. It was very clean. Recomend breakfast at Barter Books.
