“Very pleasant stay”

My wife and I stayed here for 2 days and we were impressed by how friendly and helpful all of the staff was. They provided great recommendations for dinner and drinks and were very accomodating. The hotel is a bit dated, but not too old. They do a good job of keeping up on maintenance. The breakfast was pretty good as well. Overall, much better than expected, but I wouldn't ever confuse it with a 5 star location.

“good for penn state weekend”

Our first trip to a Penn State game. The employees were extremely courteous, friendly and very helpful. Room was comfortable and clean. Complimentary breakfast was very good. Tailgate party was an extra bonus. Was impressed that they go over and above to cater to Penn State fans.

“Fantastic weekend”

Everthing was great! Only had one problem...digital cable on tv was not working correctly and we had a hard time watching tv. Called front desk and was told maintance was off duty for the day. It snowed that saturday so i don't know if that was the problem or not..front desk said they sometimes have trouble with the digital cable. If think for the price i paid for the room the cable should have been working. Everthing else was great, staff was very friendly and helpful. would go back again.

“Consistently high quality”

This Holiday Inn Express does an excellent job of maintaining rooms and common areas. The front desk staff is courteous and the rooms I have stayed in have been consistently clean, well stocked, and in good condition. I really use a printer in my room and appreciate having one available (and stocked with paper!). The wireless internet connection is easy to access and reliable. I put my wireless devices away while staying at this location. I don't do the hot breakfast much, but in the past it has been fine. I travel a lot on business and my dog accompanies me. She has always been welcomed at this Holiday Inn and she loves the housekeeping staff (who are very friendly and helpful).

Area recommendations

Altoona is a very pretty city, located in the Allegheny Mountains. Spring and fall are simply beautiful. It is a small town worth exploring and is very unique.

“Altoona surprise”

Although not impressive from the front, this hotel was surprisingly nice inside and out back -- a hot tub and garden fountains!

“good place, good breakfast, just wish it had a pool”

Not much to say. It was clean, service was good, breakfast was impressive. We went on "Penn State Weekend" so we didn't get any kind of break on price, but it was worth it. They accepted our 3 kids without a hassle. I just wish there had been a pool for the kiddos.

“Nice place to stay”

This was the second time I stayed at this HIExpress and both times it was a nice experience. Staff is accommodating and friendly, the place is well maintained, and it is a pleasant place to unwind at night. While I visit Altoona frequently on business, I also bring my scottish terrier and am very pleased that I can bring her along to this location.She even gets a goodie bag of treats.
