“Superb view of the Amalfi Coast.”
The hotel is located in one of the most spectacular sites of the Amalfi Coast, it is literally attached to the rock overlooking the ocean. From our room we had a breathtaking view of the ocean and of the coast, including Positano and Praiano. The room was a bit small by US standards however the balcony was spacious and we could sit there and enjoy the superb view. The hotel has several terraces and the outdoor restaurant and lounge bar offer equally enchanting views of the mountains, the ocean and the nearby villages. The road on the Amalfi coast is narrow and winding and we preferred to use public transportation, there were bus stops just outside the hotel.
“Like a second home and family”
"Can't wait to go back" everyone at the hotel could not do enough for you to make your visit a once in a life time, it was wonderful and great. The warmth and love from the owner to the gardner was so true and exceptional. It is truely a family owned and operated hotel. The food and service lacked nothing and I am still owed by all of it. Anyone traveling to the Almafi coast could not enjoy their visit any more than at the Grand Hotel Tritone. This is the finest hotel I ever had the pleasure to be pampered at. Can not want anything better! Go to the Grand Hotel Tritone Hotel and love your visit.
“Amalfi Coast a true wonder of the world”
The location and the views are amazingly spectacular. The service is out of this world, I was not aware that Italians, especially from the South, can provide this level of service. My compliments to the staff and management. I will definitely return to this hotel without any questions.
“Fabulous Hotel”
We stayed four nights in July 2009 and just loved this hotel. The views are incredible, the service impeccable and rooms were comfortable. They get an A+ for cleanliness. Breakfast was excellent. The private beach and pool are great but you have to climb across rocks to get to the beach. We read the hotel guide in the room with huge amusement. Its content is unintentionally very cute.
“A little piece of heaven”
We were a little hesitant to stay at this hotel based on some of the negative reviews. Don't listen to any of them - this place is a little piece of heaven. We had a room with a balcony and the views were absolutely breathtaking. This hotel is located over a mile from the center of town where all of the restaurants and shops are, so it wouldn't be the best option for people who like to be in the middle of all the action (if that's what you're looking for then stay in Amalfi or Sorrento). We wanted a place that was quiet and relaxing so this fit the bill! Yes, the hotel is old, but EVERYTHING in Italy is old. The owners have done a good job of keeping the place up while still maintaining the charm. I had low expectations for the breakfast based on some of the reviews I read, but I was pleasantly surprised. There were a lot of options and I was always full until lunch. We found the hotel staff to be very friendly and accommodating. Their English was not perfect, but certainly good enough to hold a conversation. The best part about this hotel is the area down by the water. You can jump into the Mediterranean to cool off or take a dip in the little salt water pool. There is a small restaurant down at the bottom where you can order lunch. This is very convenient and the food was light and fresh. It was reasonably priced (10 euros or less per person) Overall we loved Grand Hotel Tritone and can't wait to go back. Highly recommend!
“magnificent site”
hotel commands a magnificent site and takes full advantage of it. very much a 4 star, not 5 star, hotel...and front desk service did always live up to 4 stars...but a full of unending breathtaking views and truly beautiful pool perched hundreds of feet above the sea. biggest complaints--lack of character at the sea level and very poor lunches served (sharp contrast to lunches served at the pool, prepared in the main kitchen)...all in all a good choice to appreciate the amalfi coast
“Great views,great service,fair price”
Truly enjoyed the hotel, breakfast was excellent, service was friendly and professional. Would definitly go back....
“Beautiful Amalfi Coast Hotel”
We stayed at the Grand Hotel Tritone for two days, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel has the most beautiful views and the breakfast service is excellent. Food in the restaurant is extremely good and the barman went over and above his duty to assist us. The first room we were given did not have a very good view. However, they gave us three more options and the one we chose was smaller, but with a magnificent view of Capri and Amalfi coastline. Only problem was with ants. Our bathroom was crawling with them, as well as the balcony. When we complained they just said, it comes with the vegetation!! Also, as we found in most of Italy, the air conditioner was not as cold as American's prefer, however it was better than many we stayed in. Our only other problem was that the day trip we took to Capri (booked by the hotel) did not allow us to return directly to the hotel due to its being late, and they close the beach elevator at 7 p.m. so we had to go to another town and take a bus back to Praiano, which didn't work too well, as we missed our dinner appointment. When we told the front desk they basically said sorry, but did nothing to compensate us for spoiling our evening. Overall, I would recommend this hotel as its situation is a unique experience (all rooms are situate down the hillside). It is probably closer to 4* than the 5 it was in its hayday.
“horrible experience!”
When i checked into my room it was FILTHY! Dirty shower curtain, a used q tip on the floor, hair all over the floor, it was disgusting! The AC didn't work neither did the tv or internet! The person at the front desk was extremely rude and not helpful whatsoever! This hotel was probably a 4 star when it first opened , no longer!! I rate this hotel a 1!
“Don't go there!!”
while the view was gorgeous, you can get the same view from any number of better hotels in the area. The Grand Tritone staff is rude and does not offer any help with luggage, problems, etc. The dining area is over run with ants as are all the open areas. The hotel is aware of this but does nothing. The rooms remind one of a one or two star motel, the bed being no more than a cot. You don't even want to unpack. The patio was nice but also overrun with bugs so you could not even sit outside for a drink or to share a snack with friends. Parking is horrible! Instead of staying in Positano, stay in Castelliglimare and take a boat ride to this area...or stay in the village of Positano itself.
