“Not impressed...”

Less than enthusiastic welcome from 'greeter', if you can call her that. We interrupted a personal phone call and it was obvious we were an "intrusion". I returned to the desk a few minutes after going to the room. We were hoping to have a DVD player to watch a movie and when I returned to front desk, she was yelling into the phone...she had resumed that personal phone call. No DVD player available unless we were in a first floor room...and none were available. Breakfast was appreciated...but the trash can was overflowing so people were just putting garbage on the floor. The desk attendant acted quite disinterested in addressing that issue. It would appear that hospitality training is lacking at this location.

It was a non-smoking room but the smoke from the room above came down through the bathroom vent. Had to keep BR door closed to keep smell out. Fan on wall heater was noisy and came on and off all the time. The building was noisy and the breakfast bar had almost nothing eatable.

“Front Desk Friendly”

The man at the front desk was wonderful. His name was Chad. Chad was kind, nice and very informative. You have a good employee with Chad.

dingy and not very clean, especially around the edges (of anything). back door was not secure.

“Poor Experience”

Check in was quick and convenient, as was the check out process. The hotel was quiet, and some of the areas seemed clean, the common areas. However, the room was ridiculous. There was a used band aid on the floor when we arrived, and the room was not the one that we had booked (2 double beds instead of one queen). However, since we were there on Homecoming weekend, there wasn't a way for them to accomodate our "request" to switch to the correct room. The shower had long, dark hairs all over it upon arrival as well. When we turned on the heat, it started smoking so badly that the smoke alarm went off, and they could not fix it, nor did they offer any other way of remediating the situation, and said they had no extra blankets to give us. So, the hotel room was about 60 degrees all night. While this hotel isn't necessarily close to anything (we were there for a football game and other campus activities), it is quick and easy to get around in Ames, so this wasn't a big issue for us. Overall, we would not go back, not only was it dirty and in poor repair, the clerks were not helpful at all, nor did they offer to fix things that were broken. Sometimes inexpensive just means cheap.

“Decent hotel.”

Decent hotel for the price, i got a quiet room as requested, room is clean. WiFi speed is good, it is a bit out of the way from town, but if you driving, its no problem, plenty of parking. However I had only one complain, the direction from Des Moines International airport to the hotel is wrong by Expedia. From E 13th St. turning into Dayton Ave, it should be tuning left instead of turning right, please correct this for future travellers. Overall we enjoyed the stay.

“Super 8...Ames, Iowa”

A good hotel for the price. Check-in was fast. The room was very clean. It was nice having a microwave and mini-refrigerator in the room. Pretty easy access from I-35 and Route 30.

Several of the reviews of this hotel were pretty harsh (IMO). The hotel was clean, comfortable and welcoming. For the price, I don't think you can do better. If you're looking for a 5 star hotel, this isn't it. But, if you're looking for a clean place to stay, this can't be beat. I'd definitely stay there again! Only complaint was that the controls on the heater were kind of tricky.
